So, after installing the replacement pressure plate from brewers....problem solved!!! My luck I would get the one defective one to begin with. After installing the new one I couldnt believe how the clutch felt. Since building this car it has never felt that way. Awesome. Nice smooth shifts and a...

So after seeing the fingers all out of whack I called Wayne at Brewers performance and explained the situation. He got off the phone with me and called Mcleod. He called me back in 15 minutes and said that Mcleod was sending me a brand new unit at no charge. Kuddos to you Brewers Performance!

So after picking the brain of my local expert he suggested that the pressure plate fingers (3) were either out of adjustment or the eye bolts have stretched. I went home and got a mirror out and started looking inside that pressure plate and sure enough he was correct! At least one of the...

After some more investigating....All linkage is moving and working, however the flywheel does not begin to move until almost at the bottom of the pedal. Strange because I watch the throw out move into the fingers but it doesnt start relasing 5the plate until very late. So I spoke with a local...

Perfacar, if I have some one on the clutch in the car and I inspect the disc and can feel that its pretty loose, meaning it seems to have enough freedom, can it still be hitting like described in your situation?

    1. Parts have been gone through several times and as I mentioned thats how I learned about the 72 and up ball stud. 2.It is a brand new set up from brewers but I know how it goes so it could possibly be a pressure plate issue. It does feel like the fingers are scraping on the plate. 3. My...

Interesting. i dont think I noticed the trans moving but I really wasn't looking for it. I actually did think about the mount though because I have noticed some slicht location changes in my shift linkage compared to the headers and I recently just reinstalled the crossmember and trans mount. I...

SoI got back under the car last night. I have the correct parts, and I watch the linkage as someone steps on the clutch. It works smoothly, and seems to have plenty of throw. So.... in theory if I adjust the clutch to normal specs and it is overcentering the clutch I would say that I have more...

The first thing I learned was that I have a 72 bell housing which requires a 1 year special ball stud. that one drove me crazy. My Z Bar has had one mod. I cut one arm and welded it back in the same spot only rotated it 3/32 forward for clearance. My clutch has always worked fine with this...

This is how I originaly adjuted it but I didnt have enough clutch that way. I over adjusted just to see if I could get more out of it. Seems that when its adjusted correctly its very hard to shift into gear, especially reverse. I have to push it way into the floor as well.

yesterday I over tightened it just to see if it disengages better, which it did but it def over centers. When I back it off I dont have enough clutch. There doesnt seem to be a middle ground. It seems my adjusting rod would have to be pretty loose to get that 1/4 of play at the Rod. I'll give it...

340/ 4speed 833 NOT a diaphram pressure plate. This trans is my Achilles Heel! I have had this trans in and out several times for one reason or another. It is completely rebuilt, new clutch, new pressure plate ( Hayes) from Brewers. Everytime I mess with this trans something always changes...

    A833 trans alignment issue? Help

I finaly fixed this issue. I removed the trans, again, and started taking some measurements. what I found was that the pilot bushing need to be installed deeper than flush as the FSM said to do. Once I installed another bushing deeper in the Trans slid right in and is working fine. It seems that...

    A833 trans alignment issue? Help

Quick question..... When I install this trans it goes in pretty smooth until the last 3/8 of an inch where the shaft housing has to fit into the hole in the bell housing. I have to use the trans bolts to suck it in. It fits but it's snug. Is this normal? Folks tell me it should slide right in...

    A833 trans alignment issue? Help

I did put a minimal amount of grease. Just rub with the finger inside the bushing. The first time, before replacing the bushing, the trans was hard as hell to get in. After replacing the bushing it went in much easier this time I guess I'm going to have to check the run out. Ugh!!! I am worn...

    A833 trans alignment issue? Help

It is def in the correct way so it's not hitting. Update Found an assistant to work the pedal as I was underneath. First time I was able to spin the clutch about half way around and it hung up. I had them take pressure off the clutch and then press it again. I was then able to spin it about 1/2...

    A833 trans alignment issue? Help

Everything has been replaced ie..... Rod, clutch, pressure plate, bushing etc..... The first time I pulled it I did so because while under the car my assistant pressed the clutch pedal and in fact it had proper movement. However I could not move the clutch freely. When I pulled it back out I...

69 340, 72, Bell Housing, 833 Trans Changed my clutch and pressure plate to a McCloud (3 finger style) the clutch I had before was a heavy duty racing pressure plate and really was a work out on the street, but everything worked fine. After replacing the clutch I could not get it to release...

    4 speed flywheel

Does having the fly wheel milled slightly for a new cliutch install effect the balancing? What fly wheel would you use if you had a 340 stroked with a 360 crank? Dont know if that is possible but a buddy has a 340 that "supossedly" has had that done to it.

pictures of pedal assemblies 340 vs. others

No problem with reverse however 2nd I can get a grind now and then. It mostly just feels stiff. I cant freely go from gear to gear without hitting that stiff spot between gears. I also notice it does not like down shifting even when I am at a speed that is below a comfortable speed for that...

Tranny question for you. I am new to the 4 speed. It seems when I shift that I have a bit of a stiff spot between gears. when I shift from one gear to another and pass through nuetral its a bit stiff there. I have to have a small pause between gears. Are these trannys and shifters supposed to be...

    Zbar identification please????

I bought a new one and cut the clutch fork end shorter by 1/4 of an inch and moved the arm from 5:00 to 5:30. Now it clears my headers just fine. I now believe the one above was somes ones attempt to bend and tweek past the headers.
