    Dougs

Sure sounds like you got a defective set like I had. When I called Pertronix I didn't tell them and they didn't ask me where I got mine (I bought them from a member here also). They told me to send pics and when they saw I dented the tubes that's when they balked. I have a feeling they might...

Sounds like you might have also got a set that were jigged wrong. Try checking the engine location first according to TTI's engine locating instructions here (pg 1) http://www.ttiexhaust.com/PDF/II_TTI440-200.pdf If the engine is in the correct location whatever you do don't dent or even...

    Dougs

I wondered about that too, mainly how well it would seal up. I actually expected it to leak at least a little but I've put 500 miles on it and hear no leak at all nor do I see any sign of burned exhaust coming out of the splice. Since it wraps around the torsion bar it has to be a 2 piece design

While I agree flattening tubes isn't a good thing to do, if you do it in moderation to gain a little clearance I can't see it hurts that much. If you saw mine in person you'd see it's only flattened down about 1/4". TTI's have a spot on them that's flattened down by the factory at least that...

    Dougs

I know this is an old thread and I wish I would have known about it earlier but I didn't and just wanted to say I wasted $535 on a set of doug's that had the exact same issue. Their BS way out of warrantying them is since I modified them (dinged in #1 and 3 tubes) to try and make them work they...

    Hollow Thrush Mufflers (vintage?)

I remember running the standard glass packed Thrush like the ones in the pic above but never saw any that didn't have packing. When I turned 16 in 1980 I quickly cut off the stock muffler and put a Thrush glass pack on it. May have only been single exhaust but that 383 still talked pretty good...

    Doug's Installation

Did it come off (to verify it's the right one cause there are a few different ones)? Do you have it backwards? I know that is a dumb question but it happens with odd shaped items like these. I had no problem getting mine back on

    Agreed

Jegs 2 1/2" exhaust reference pics

Thanks bud. I can't remember what the mufflers I got were called cause it's been nearly 3 yrs. since I bought them but I do remember they had 3 choices and I went with what they said were the quietest ones. They drone a little but not terrible. Sounds really good at WOT.:D:burnout: EDIT: Just...

Wow! This thread is nearly 4 yrs. old and no one has posted in it for almost 3 yrs. Hopefully it's installed by now, LOL....

small block chevrolet in a 68 barracuda headers

Yep. Guess I'm an IDIOT since I don't run any brand X stuff on my Cuda. Seems kinda funny to me how you can see 100 people out of 10,000 running non-mopar parts and suddenly it becomes "everybody" or "those people". Like you said Vart everyone is entitled to their own opinion but when they start...

small block chevrolet in a 68 barracuda headers

All joking aside, the idea of welding Chevy flanges onto Mopar headers sounds like the thing to do.

Dang good thing I wasn't taking a drink when I read this Pete or you'd have been drivin to IL to clean my computer screen, LOL :burnout::burnout:

Which Mopar folks? A few, but not very many from what I read. Sure wouldn't do it myself.

    340 exhuast manifolds

    I think it's 2" but I'm not positive.
  17. fishy68

    340 exhuast manifolds

Yes. I can't remember if 71 was still the good/old style or if that was the year they changed but I know for sure 72 and 73 is the same manifold as you'll find on a 360 2 barrel engine. I saw a dyno report a few yrs. ago that compared them and there wasn't a big diff. in performance but the...

    who sells 3" stainless exhaust?

Summit used to sell a Pypes 3" stainless system for a-bodies. Not sure if they still do but it's worth a look. I bought their 2-1/2" kit for my car about 3 yrs. ago. Had to do quite a bit of work to get it to fit right but from what I've read they fit Dart's good, which if I remember right is...

    Headers for Magnum heads

Absolutely no magnum heads ever had smog ports. Early or late. I bought a brand new Dakota in 93 and it didn't have smog ports. A buddy of mine had a 92 Ram with a 318 mag (1st year for the magnum) and it didn't have smog ports. Your engine looks super.

    Headers for Magnum heads

I got Hooker comp. headers on my car now with power steering and it clears the box but just barely. The pass. side also just clears the torsion bar. I had to do some tweaking to get them to where they didn't rattle on something. I've heard of other guy say they had to actually ding some tubes...

    Painting/Coating Headers

I used POR-15 on all my suspension parts and it worked fantastic. That was in 05 and they still look great. Since it worked so good on the suspension I thought it'd be equally as good on the headers but it wasn't. Lasted less than a year and rust was popping out everywhere. Within 3 years they...

Are Doug's headers worth it over my Summit headers?

Ah, no wonder. I've seen them as cheap as $525 but that's it. Haven't seen a sale on them for quite a while now.

Are Doug's headers worth it over my Summit headers?

Man that's a screamin deal. Where did ya find them for that price?

Are Doug's headers worth it over my Summit headers?

IMO Doug's or TTI's are the cats meow to work around plus they look better. I have regular Hookers on my car and hate them. What a royal PITA to work around. The $500 ones (D453R) you saw on Summit are un-coated. The $800 ones (D453) are ceramic coated.

    Hooker headers

We love it too. We usually hit the antique shops in Grafton, eat lunch at one of the many restaurants there, then to Pere Marquette park. It's generally great for taking pics this time of the year. Hopefully the long hot dry summer didn't hinder the colors this year.

    Hooker headers

Your welcome. No I didn't make it down Sunday. I'm 45 miles n.e. of you so I only make 1 or 2 a month. Got my car apart right now installing a new engine. Hopefully I'll have it back together by next weekend for our yearly river road ride. I know what you mean about stock manifolds. I wish I had...

    Hooker headers

I can't remember what # mine are but they are the 1-5/8" Hookers. They are a freakin nightmare to get on and off and you have to watch bumps, especially speed bumps cause they hang real low. They clear everything but just barely but that's the case with with all headers on an A-body except TTI's...

    Hedman Headers Long tube

The drivers side header bottoming out is a plague on most A-body headers. The only 2 street headers I know of that don't hang down like that are TTI's and Doug's but of course your looking at $600 for Doug's and at least $625 for TTI's. I have Hooker super comps on mine which are designed like...

Thrush welded seriers install and video.

Their kinda loud (or so it seems in the video) but they sound great. Like open headers but quieter. Kinda hard to compare them with the video of the flowtec's since you didn't drive it with them. Do you have a H or X pipe in the system?
