Replacing the seals, and gaskets to prevent future issues is fine if it gives you peace of mind. There's a kit that has a dye that you put in the oil, and a black light to see where the leak is coming from. But you would have to clean off all the old oil. And welcome from Weeki Wachee Florida

If the engine, and converter are internally balanced, you should just need the stock internal balance flexplate.

It has a 2.9 lever, so I did 2 1/2 turns out. Oddly, the fluid smelled fine after I drained it, and smelled it, so I guess it will be ok. Thanks for all the help.

I put in a God Forbid tci valve body. It didn't function properly, so I pulled it apart, and went through it with their directions. Shifts are good , kickdown works properly. Should I back off adjustment to 2 1/2 turns?

Bands are 2 turns out. As noted by the builder on the side of the case. It did take some work to sort out the throttle pressure. Wonder if that's a contributor?

So, I was changing my torque converter, and I noticed that the fluid smelled burnt. Not many miles on this trans. Maybe 1000. I know I have to change the fluid, and to check the band adjustment. My questions are what could cause the fluid to burn in such a short time? I drive like an old man...

I have done this several times. I just used a large nut/bolt with an oil pan bolt gasket. I weld the nut on the outside of the pan, cut the bolt so it doesn't protrude into the pan any more than necessary. I'm not worried about tearing it off, my cars aren't low riders. Cost? Nothing. Just time.

No being it's all stock, I never needed to check it.

I keep hearing about 3-5 degrees down on the rear axle, but when I look at my 64 sport Fury, it is clearly pointed up a few degrees.

The carb pad should be level. That should give about 3 * at the trans.

Since your speedometer is broken, put your phone on Google maps. They give your speed, as well as navigation.

I had a new converter cause vibration. If it vibrates at idle, like you said, you should consider bad engine balance, or the converter.

I don't mean to egg you on, cause this issue is no yolk, and it could scramble your brain. Sorry. I had to do it. I hope you get your yoke issue resolved.

Ok. I just want to thank everyone who has tried to help me with this issue. Turns out it was the brakes, and not the rear. I had the brake drums turned, and put new shoes on it, even though the brakes that were on it were not old. I think it's just crappy Chinese products.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the normal groaning brakes. I may be on the wrong track, but it's affordable, and it's better than spending 1500dollars, and find out I'm wrong.

I did have the thrust button fall out.pulled the 3rd member, and put them back in with a roll pin. Put new fluid in it with Ford friction modifier. I will try pushing the car side to side, and drive in circles. Can it be bad bearings?
