Yet another ballast question, maybe different this time

First, a big thank you to those who replied. Second, the problem turned out to be the choke wire slipped off the terminal, and was grounding out. I went through everything and made sure it was all good. Oddly, the first ballast resistor didn't fail. But I am going to get a couple spares.

Yet another ballast question, maybe different this time

Thanks, I will check that. Will an ECU still start the car if it is defective? Because whatever is wrong, the car ran for about 20 seconds each time, and then shut off, but the ballast didn't stop being red hot, and smoking, until I disconnected the battery.

Yet another ballast question, maybe different this time

I haven't started looking yet. I had to winch it back into the garage. After that, I left it for when I have some idea where to start. I know hot is normal, but I question is red hot, and smoking normal?

Yet another ballast question, maybe different this time

Ok guys, I built my 69 Dart over 10 years ago. 340 swinger. It has run flawlessly the whole time. When I built the car, I installed a electronic ignition kit from Direct Connection. I think the kit was from the 80's. So, it has a single ballast. I went to drive it today, after sitting for a...

Fried Blue Fld wire from Alternator

Does the top field terminal have an isolator on it? If so, I would take it back to the store, and have it tested.

    Starter contact adapter

I'm looking for the contact adapter that moves the starter contacts from the top of a Denso starter, to the front. I know there's been a bunch of posts on it, but I can't remember what it's actually called to look it up. TIA

I have Optima batteries in two of my classics. The other two have Walmart batteries. One is 10 years old.

Is ballast resistor failure a myth?

I came across an original ECU, and ballast resistor when I was restoring my Dart. I have had spares in my trunk for 10 years. Originals are still going.

    MSD Ignition - No Start

Consider bad gas. I had a buddy who's Duster wouldn't start. Checked fire, good. Checked fuel, plenty. I insisted it was bad gas. He insisted it was the MSD box, so he bought a new one. He gave me his old one. His car still wouldn't start. Mine still runs great after 20 years. He did put in...

    Rusted MSD

Mine keeps rusting, and I cleaned it up, and painted it with clear, as suggested by MSD. I kept the paint off the tip of the reluctor. I also drilled a 3/8 hole in the cap. Another issue is the plastic pads that the weights ride on, disintegrate over time. It put a black goo over the inside of...

    What is this ?

Owning a 64 B body, I agree with all that has been posted. If you choose to stay with the stock ignition, I would use the above 2 post ballast and wire it according to the posted diagram. Lose all the other junk. My main input is to clean up any rust you see. Especially the grounds. Other wise...

Two Ignition electrical questions discovered during MSD installation

Taking out the ballast resistor, and connecting the start ,and run wire from the ignition switch, is how it's done. The MSD doesn't use the BR. https://documents.holley.com/6201.pdf

    A different alternator question

I'm not sure what caused confusion. The question seems simple to me. "I have typically poor Chrysler charging at idle. The question is; which alternator is better at charging at idle speeds? Mopar style Powermaster, Toyota Denso, Dakota Denso, or Ford 3g? You did answer my question by saying you...

    A different alternator question

O.K. Not trying to upset anyone. I do appreciate your input, but none of the replies addresses my original question. I need to make an informed opinion, but I can't if no one answers my question. I do have the relays on my headlights from a kit by Slant Six Dan.
