    Cast to forged crank

When I had a problem with my TCI valve body(shocking), I went to their website, and printed the directions for the one that I had, and just went through the VB line, by line. Works fine now.

    Cast to forged crank

Thanks for everything guys. I have a cast crank 446 that is coming out of my Sport Fury, and will be replaced with a 505. I ended up with a nice forged crank, and was wondering if it would be worth the effort. I think I will just keep it as a cast crank engine. It has been a great engine. It...

    Cast to forged crank

I have a complete 440 cast crank engine. I also have a forged crank. Can I put the forged crank into my cast crank engine without changing the rods, and pistons?

    fabrication

I enjoy making things for my vehicles. Having a welder, and some good air tools are a must. Sometimes I make my tools to fit the problem. I'm no coach builder, but I get alot of satisfaction from it.

Be aware, Chrysler made a change to the thrust bearing around 1973. They do not interchange.

Variable hydraulic lifters for 440 engine

he throttle a little more and close in the mixture screws This has me confused. The mixture screws aren't supposed to be closed. They are adjusted to highest rpm/vacuum. Also, I wonder about the power valve. Have you checked what it's rated for?.

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Well, that opens up a bunch more questions. Weight, roller, compression, fuel, carb, gear, etc? Mine is a full weight street car, through the exhaust with the sway bar attached. Takes a lot more to move mine.

    oil pressure question

Yes, there is the Crystal river cruise night. Forgot about that one. I was going to go last Saturday, but the love bugs were insane. don't forget the Garlit's show in ocala. it's usually big. If you are in Lakeland, I hope you realize these cruise nights at Crystal River, and Weeki Wachee, are a...

    oil pressure question

Rusty, and s'cuder, Thanks for the excellent answers. As for the oil, I am currently running the Rotella t4 with the stp additive. The reasoning is the Rotella reduced the zddp, and the stp has it, so, just tryin to keep the zddp levels up. And the oil pressure....

    oil pressure question

There isn't a cruise night at 50 & 19 on Saturdays. There's one on Thursday, but it's dying. Dade city has a Saturday cruise in the first Sat. of the month. Plant City has one I think it's the 3rd Saturday. Lakeland should be having the Lake Mirror show next month.....

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Sadly, that's the nature of humans. We always want more. Not sure if my wallet could afford the stroker. I'm going to look for Dulmage's book.

    oil pressure question

Thanks for the input. I just want to be pro active, and not put holes in my head, pan, block, etc. A block around here is expensive.

While that wasn't the question, that was going to be my next question. The stroker idea is interesting.

I'm going to start looking for that book. Thanks again.

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Thank you. Not trying to build to anything specific. It's a mostly street car that I would like to get to mid 11s. The thought is that if I'm going to go through the engine, it should be better/faster than it is.

You didn't hurt my feelings. It was a useless, stupid remark, of no value. Same with your reply. still nothing.

Wow. that was so useful. I hope when you ask a question, you get stupid answers, and get the finger.

    oil pressure question

I was looking for possible directions to go. Wasn't really into becoming an oil expert. I would rather not have to add another gauge, weld bung in the oil pan, repeated oil changes, etc. I was just wondering if my situation means oil pump, or suck it up, and put in new bearings. Some of us are...

That's from the Edelbrock website. Do you have a different figure?
  25. furyus2

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Thanks again. The website says 291 cfm at 600 lift. Wallace says my engine is producing 212 cfm now using the 80%. Is it a safe assumption that I have a ways to go with my stock heads before they become an issue?

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

I don't have a head porter, but from what I've heard, when it comes to price, they love anal.

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

You are right. I apologize. I looked at the flow on their website, and used one of the Wallace calculators, and although I am not sure of the VE, I took a guess, and it seems like the heads may not be my issue. Is there a standard value (or something close)for the VE of a street style engine?

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Well, I was trying to keep it as on point as possible. It's already veered off to converters, compression, etc. I do understand it's the whole package. So, if the untouched heads are good from 450- 500 hp (with my ok engine building skills), since I already own them, would I be better off both...

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Thank you for a clear, concise answer. 600 hp sounded a bit much to me. Considering my cars performance, I feel I'm at the limits of the engine combo. I know it needs a better converter. Yes, the brakes, front and rear, suspension have all been upgraded.

    Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

The engine being tired has nothing to do with the power capabilities of the heads. I never said I was going to build a 600 hp engine. So far, I've had 2 clear opinions on the original question. If you can't answer the original question, move on.
