    1974 Duster

Thanks! Been tied up with other hobbies as I had a medical issue which made working on cars very unappealing. Now that its fixed I'm feeling considerably more motivated.

Nothing for awhile- Just finishing off some parts lots sales to make space, our VF750C Honda Magna just rebuilt the carbs for the first time so we can go riding again (HATE E10 fuel) going to an autocross event with the CSX later this month (might have footage of that) and GTX is slated to be in...

    1974 Duster

Thanks! I have slowly been clearing out my backlog of un-car related projects if that makes sense so I can work on Dart, Reliant and GTX. Just drained the tank of the Duster last weekend and replaced with new fuel and cleaned out the carb. I hate E10. Car is track ready aside from changing out...

    1974 Duster

Being pressed for time I reinstalled the 3.55's in the rear axle this morning. I need my lift for several projects so had to get the car off pronto. Also swapped out the carb for an 750 AFB that I picked up off Ebay. On road test it was lean at cruise, WOT looks spot on though. Very nice, easy...

    1974 Duster

Yesterday I was stalking a set of 3.90 gears for my Duster with 8.25" and the excellent tech Stan from Jegs did some calling around for me. Turns out the reason that the part number I was looking for is hard to find is Richmond Gear has been purchased by Motive Gear and they are discontinuing a...

    1974 Duster

It does but how much time to you waste with constant tuning? I have a bunch of carb stuff I could sell off and it would pretty much pay for an EFITech unit, fuel pump and sump.

    1974 Duster

I have a few weeks off, going to back up and take another go at it. New set of 3.90 gears, pull trans back out to fix leak and change out the front crank seal. Have a new Carter 750 AFB on the way. The current one has modified boosters which work great at WOT but cause a slight tip in lean...

    1974 Duster

I swear the car is trying to make me angry: Looked under the car last night and leaks, leaks, leaks! Trans leak from bellhousing and remote filter. Coolant leak from... somewhere. Maybe slightly loose hose clamp. Oil on the front of motor. Front seal? WTH

    1974 Duster

Last weekend for ha-ha's changed the shim pack on the pinion from .026 to .023. Rear end is better but noise still there. Just moved up slightly in the speed range and slightly quieter. My advice is to avoid Motive Gear at all costs, lots of guys on other forums reporting results not much...

    1974 Duster

Vendor as promised has replaced gearset. Replaced and setup, did a gear pattern which was ok'd by vendor before the unit was sealed up. This set of Motive Power gears whine at 50-65 mph like a drill in the trunk at light throttle. This will not do. Getting real tired of this.

    1974 Duster

Finished the ring and pinion last weekend and it looks like we got a bad one. Install went fine, great pattern, car was silent running on the lift. Went for a road test and inside 5 miles was starting to make noise and by the time I made it back to the garage it was howling. Pulled the cover and...

The Reliant has been waiting its turn, I hope to get it track ready in 2017 now that I'm cycling through all the other cars.

Still doing some carb tinkering and the ring and pinion just came in. Going to setup a page showing the tools needed to swap ring and pinion (some of which we are making from scratch) along with a trans mod page. The Dodge Garage database is going to start expanding into RWD territory.

    1974 Duster

Decided to go big and skip a size from and went from 110 to 104. WOT is perfect with the mixture floating from 11.2-1 to 10.8-1. I expect the fueling requirement to go up when the headers are uncorked and the cooler fall air. Low speed cruise is slightly lean which I'll tune via the metering...

Very pleased- With the wide band installed I'm one jet off perfect. Once the car cools off I'm going to change out the primaries from .110 to .107

    1974 Duster

Did some carb tuning tonight, found something odd. Secondaries .110 changed to .113 Primaries .107 changed to .110 Metering rod currently at .073 x .060 I had a thinner rod in before the jet change but changed back to the original rod, still seems a touch fat at light throttle. Found one...

    1974 Duster

So far pleased with the transmission performance, going to order the 3.73 gears this weekend. Had the car on the scope last night to check out the ignition pattern and will pull the top off the car to adjust the floats.

    1974 Duster

Still on the fence about rear gears- 3.73 or 3.90's? I'm leaning towards the 3.73 gears for a number of reasons. Should be enough gear to run 12's, lower impact on highway and the car is already tire happy with the current gearset. Any more gear out back and the tires will go up at the...

    1974 Duster

Checking the car over close I found that the kickdown lever was not going back as far as it could with the throttle! There was a 3/8" gap due to the adjuster being all the way out. Rummaging around in my stash 'o parts I found a rod that was an 1" longer and swapped it out. Much better...

    1974 Duster

Car doesn't sit that much! Took apart the caliper, found nothing wrong and clean inside. Polished the piston with 2000 grit wet/dry just to be safe and reassembled. Changed out both front hoses and flushed the system. Dropped the trans pan and gave the pressure regulator one full turn. This...

After fighting with a few items this morning like a bent inspection plate and the line on the pressure gauge pissing a quart Type F all over the place the car is back on the road! Line pressure at the test port is 80 psi at idle, 120 psi with the lever in the WOT position. Not the 130 psi I was...

    1974 Duster

Morning racers! Last year I took the Duster racing and after upgrading the headers and tweaking made an additional 70+ hp. This made the transmission angry and you can hear the 2-3 flare towards the end of the day. 13.08 pass: [video:youtube] The plan this month is to fortify the...
