1972 Duster return to the road

Son of Gary T. You have a great car there. We all regret some of our decisions. But we also appreciate the outcome of the vision. Keep the vision. That Duster will rock your world for years to come!

Thanks Tom. I agree, it really is starting to look cool again, and it is solid enough to pass an inspection if I made it run.

Thanks again Randy. I do love seeing the fruits of my labors. There isn’t much more satisfying in life than seeing changes you’ve made or helped to facilitate, in cars among many other things! Sharing entertainment is a great hobby too.

Thank you very much Sir. That may be true, and I do appreciate the compliment. I'm self educated through this site, so thanks to all. But your knowledge sharing input is far above many of our abilities here. Way above mine for sure. I will be using your talent when the time comes to make it...

I often think about undoing things later, but doing it solid over rides the temp fixes even if I change plans! Yup, more work.

Pretty well rock solid. Now just the small parts to do. I use self tappers to suck the floor down. Then remove one at a time and bevel the hole with a drill. That way I weld the hole in the frame and a bigger pocket in the floor pan. Very good connections.

Im bored again so it’s time to take on a big one. The rail is only damaged under the floorplan. I’m going quite a bit ahead of the damage with the new piece. I pulled it into place long ago, but it took a while to find a repair section. A bunch of hand calculated squiggley lines and away...

Pretty happy with this for now. I can’t believe how close the red oxide primer is to the patina. Almost like it was planned. All covered and protected for now. Driver side en route!

I changed my mind and declared today a later date! Some like 80. Some like 40. I like 36 grit scratches. My glass is old and the store didn’t have any at the moment so I’m trying Metal 2 Metal. I haven’t used it before. I want it for the roof seams anyway.

Back to some older jobs that got left by the wayside. When I got the donor roof skin, it was not perfect. But it’s absolutely beautiful considering they don’t repop these! Next is the driver side.

Yes I have weld through primer. I think it is zinc based or something similar. It’s copper colored. My pictures are not always in the order I do things! But you can see it in some of them.

I finally got a piece of frame rail to replace the crunched area. It has a small repair to complete and then I will section it in later on. Gotta get back to that quarter.

It is getting cold out again so I will be starting to work on StuBBle again. In the meantime I went to pick up something for the Challenger. It came with a 6 way seat and I found a base cheap. $400. That’s cheap as far as I know. So I got this. But while I was looking around and at his...
