Anyone building this transmission stand? "Nick Garage"

I made those 20 years ago....plus even (way) better the TransLift. This is a device that allows you to work on a transmission at various heights, not a device for picking up men who think they are women. With the TransLift, you can load and unload the trans from the jack, and you can work on 4...

Good Deal On A Nice Timing Light

That looks like mine, which does work with MSD. The funny thing is....when you get one that works with MSD, I suspect you are essentially buying a 'retarded' version of a timing light, one with a slower response rate. By slowing down the rate of sampling, it can't detect the multiple sparks...

    Oerlikon UB2

Yeah but these are Miller welders that 20 years ago were in the infancy of the digital age. A Syncrowave 350 of 20 years ago will last forever in terms of the power side, but the control side? You'll become well acquainted with the local repair guy. I'd rather have a new one that has Revision...

    Oerlikon UB2

Oh, there were all kinds of treasures but the real issue is one of space.....they had a lot of stuff I couldn't fit in my garage even if it was empty to start with...and it ain't! Like a lovely Chicago, Dreis & Krump press brake, 12' x 65 ton....it sold for a whopping $4500 and is headed down...

    Oerlikon UB2

Yes, Oerlikon made a lot of big guns. They were (are?) a big industrial company that made lots of stuff.

    Oerlikon UB2

Another unusual feature is this drill press is rated for milling and boring service as well. That basically means the spindle is strong enough, and accurate enough. If you try milling with a normal drill press, the performance is poor and something usually breaks. They sold an XY table for...

    Oerlikon UB2

I don't know when it was built. I'm guessing the 50's or 60's. Gotta do more research. These are fairly uncommon in the USA but I think they sold quite few in Europe and places like India.

    Oerlikon UB2

Yep....it is the 5th 3 phase piece of equipment in my shop....lathe, 2 mills, bandsaw, and now this. It is the only 480 volt one, though.

    Oerlikon UB2

Here's my latest tool ...an Oerlikon UB2 radial dress press. This is a Swiss-made drill press which has the unusual ability to drill in a 360 degree swivel in both the head and the column....very handy for angle drilling or getting at tough spots. It has 3 power feed speeds and speeds from 30...

Itd be easy to make that tool but man... you'd have to be using it daily to justify it.

How do you store your "stuff"...

I carefully box stuff up, label it, then put it on the shelves in my shop. Then, I put more and more boxes in front of them. Then, when I need it...I forget I ever had it and I buy more of it new. Then, a couple years later I find it and put it back on the shelf until next time.

    What is this ????

It's a BMW or Mercedes tool, you use it to put a little Spritzengruben in your Klugenstoffer.

My aching eyeballs after practicing FCAW.

I haven't done any research into it, but I have to wonder if ANY auto helmet carries with it a higher level of damage to the eyes. It seems even the fastest response still let's some light hit you eyes before it darkens. And of course, we've all had those times when the lens fails to darken...

My aching eyeballs after practicing FCAW.

I once met a guy....he told me he had been in a work-related accident and they thought for a while they would have to remove most of his tongue. I told him, "That would be terrible..." He agreed, and told me without his tongue, he wouldn't even bother having sex anymore. I said...

My aching eyeballs after practicing FCAW.

No, you guys don't know what you're talking about. There's no need to wear gloves. I see them all the time on Hot Rod TV and Paulie Jr. and every other black T-shirt/tattoo/earring car show.....they never wear gloves. I've seen them weld up entire frames in their black shirt with rings and...

My aching eyeballs after practicing FCAW.

I have nice, modern Miller MIG and TIG welders and can weld fairly well. That said... If I were in the market for a helmet, I'd compare response times and make sure I bought one with the best available. I also wear a blue Miller welding jacket, always. Not so much for burns, but to avoid the...

My aching eyeballs after practicing FCAW.

You reach a certain point in life....if you're lucky...when you start to understand your body doesn't last forever. At the forefront of that realization lie the eyes....easily the most important sense that a person has, and easily damaged. So...what I'm trying to say is don't F around when...

    Used oil container

I used to use a 5 gallon bottle that Jeg's sells for used oil, and another for used anti-freeze. After a few years, I realized that 5 gallons of oil weighs around 40lbs., and it's a PITA to lug that into an AutoZone to pour out. It's exacerbated by the fact that the oil jug seldom is...

    Used oil container

That's what gets me....the city get my tax money, but offers no services. They annex the surrounding areas to get the taxes but avoid having to provide things like garbage pickup and gives only 'access ' to the city sewage...you have to pay your own connections, etc. It's the same old...

    Used oil container

Yes....many cities will take it - if you live within the city limits. But if you live outside the city limits (but still get milked under their tax annex) they won't take it. Plus, they have limited hours and days of operation so it's a pain.

    2 Post Lift Suggestions

No way is 10' enough. I have 12' and I've never had any issue, but a full size pickup will come within 4" of hitting. Only Tattoo could stand up under a car lifted under a 10' ceiling.

    2 Post Lift Suggestions

What you can do, if you must, is lift the car a foot, then use jackstands to hold it up while you lower the lift then add risers. If you do that properly, you can gain enough added clearance under the vehicle to walk freely, jump, or even force the vehicle through the ceiling.

Lets Talk Open Barrel Crimpers - Reviews and Discussion

I have an MSD crimper (the ignition box MSD people) that works well. Like a lot of other guys, I generally crimp then solder anyway. If I'm doing something that doesn't require 'stock' type terminals, I'll use WeatherPak or Delphi connectors. For bigger stuff, like 8ga+, I'll use my big...
