Internet bridge from house to shop.

My shop is about 85 ft from my house. I bought a KUWFI bridge setup off Ebay and ran a cable to the end of my house in the attic and mounted the transmitter under the peak of my house. I put the receiver on the shop and ran a cable to a router I picked up at a garage sale. It works great. I...

    Drill Bit Sharpener

Get an old large bit, 1/2" or larger and a new one you can look at for comparison. Make sure your stone is dressed to a flat face. Try to maintain the same angle that the bit had to begin with and keep the heel just very slightly deeper than the cutting edge. Do your sharpening above the...

A member asked about removing windshield wipers in another post and I replied that he should make a tool and then thought that this thread would be more appropriate. Anyway, to make wiper removal easy (even those that have been in place for 50 plus years) just go to your local hardware store and...

    Replacement Sand Blast gun

I have replaced mine with the Campbell Hausfield AT122601AV from Tractor Supply (and one from EBay) and they seem to work well. I picked up a few extra ceramic inserts when they were available and have only gone through two since the changeout. (I use them a lot too.)

    Name that tool again??

The big opening crimps a brass sleeve on the main oxy/acetylene hose and the small hole does the crimp for the whip that attaches the torch handle.

    Price of copper tubing!

Just finished a fence project. It took all summer to gather enough cedar pickets. I could grab sometimes 40 at a time when the lumber yards got them. Finally a local yard got in a big stack so I bought the last batch from them for $3.12. When I got to the end of the job I was short three...

    differential narrowing jig

Well, I actually ordered mine directly from Leadmine Products with a phone call several years ago, but he sells them on Ebay now. I bought the 1-1/4 rod from the local steel supplier. I know the guy there and asked him to give me a call when someone else wanted a partial stick. I used to weld...

    Nitrile gloves, or better alternatives?

The local Auto Zone has The Raven gloves. I use those for some jobs such as laquer thinner and acetone and they hold up much better than most of the other cheap nitrile gloves I have tried. Still not like an Edmont Wilson Solvex glove but they last a decent while.

    Affordable Compressor Water Filter

With the one I made of pipe I was unable to notice a difference regarding the inlet and outlet. I hooked it up both ways and couldn't determine if one way is better than another. It's currently hooked up with the bottom as inlet but I sandblasted on a humid day for two hours one way and...

    Affordable Compressor Water Filter

That should work. Anything that can get the air cool enough so it can't hold the water will surely help. The coil will also use centrifigal force to "push" the seperated water out once the cool temp has caused it to drop out. Then it will be easily removed by a regular water seperator.9

    Affordable Compressor Water Filter

I'd be glad to post a photo but I loaned it to a buddy from out of town who was getting water in his sandblaster so it would plug up. He said the cooler cured the problem. He plans to be using it until the first of October, as he is having a guy make him one and the guy won't have his ready...

    Affordable Compressor Water Filter

These are good for catching the water and final filtering air. Motor Guard: Air Management I made a coil of 1/2"X 20ft pipe with air fittings on each end. I then just put a regular airline water trap on the outlet. It allows the air to cool enough for the water to drop out and be removed by the...

    A quiet compressor?

I would recommend that you somehow switch from an oil-less unit to a lubricated piston model. Those tiny little pistons gotta scream to move any air. The belt driven units aren't exactly quiet either but are much better than an oilless. As suggested a used model could be a good option for a...

    which fire extinguisher?

Every home should have at least one fully charged 20 lb ABC dry chemical extinguisher. Many homes that have burnt could have been saved if the owners had an extinguisher and were trained to use one. Most local fire departments will provide fire extinguisher training for free. As has been...

Need torque wrenches, looking for suggestions. What's the sweet spot for price/quality?

For only occasional use the beam style are cheap, remain accurate and are almost indestructible. They are slower and you have to pay attention to the dial so people think the clickers are so much better. I say no for infrequent use. I've probably built more engines with the beam style than...

    Engine Run Stand

It really builds out nice. All dimensions are included so the trial and error is all but eliminated. WIth a few minor mods it can fit most any engine. And, it folds to not use up the whole shop when it's not in use. He did a good job with the plans.

    Valve spring compressor......what's everyone use?

I've got a couple that look just like the one in your photo. One is a KD and one is a New Britain. Columbus may have brought them over for all I know. Anyway, I too got severely frustrated having them flop over on me. So, I built the one below. It's kind of a copy of one I saw on the...

looking to buy my first welder

My recommendation would be to save up and by a nice welder that will cover a broader application. There are several now that accept both 240 and 110. New Spray Paint Cans That Stop Spraying After The First Squirt?

I have noticed that the newer, large, white nozzles plug more frequently that the old style too. I also keep a baby food jar with some laquer thinner in it for soaking the pugged nozzles and change out a plugged one for a soaked one, which usually works.
