    Foam

When I did the heater box on my 77 I got the thick black stuff from hobby lobby. It isn't quite as thick and is a denser foam but works great and the black can't be seen. If yours is almost 5/16 you may need two layers but it should still work well.

    Foam

Is it the flat foam that seals the door? If so, there are foam sheets at WalMart or Hobby Lobby in the craft section that work well for air doors. 3M spray headliner adhesive will secure it.

Radiator Hose Springs - Yes or No ?

Ya, back in the day most of the lower hoses I sold at NAPA came with a stainless spring. Now I just get a stainless spring from an old sprinkler head and stretch it to length.

    FlowKooler or Milodon water pump

I have used Flowkoolers on my early As for several years and had good experiences with them. Many years ago I worked at a NAPA store and an older semi-retired gentleman was also working there part time. He had, in the past, worked for Gm, Ford and Chrysler and was sort of a cooling engineer. He...

    "Performance" Water pump feedback

My experience with Flowkooler has been good. I'm running two of them on small blocks and they are working well. For thermostats the Stewarts are the way to go. I'm currently running some old trusty Robertshaws I had stashed away after having several new Mr Gasket units fail.

Radiator Hose Springs - Yes or No ?

Just dealt with this a couple of weeks ago. A friend replaced his radiator hoses on his six cylinder pickup early this spring because the top one got a tiny leak. He recently reported to me that the pickup would occasionally overheat since that change. I asked if he took the spring from the...

    New OEM Antifreeze Mix %

Ya, they must get different water to antifreeze ratios depending on where they are delivered. A couple of Christmases ago I rented a mini van to make a short trip so seven of us could travel together. I noticed that the van came with Texas plates. The night I picked it up it dropped to -13...

Why so critical of "universal" flex radiator hoses?

Flex radiator hose is the automotive version of going to WalMart in pajamas and fuzzy slippers.

    Would you paint aluminum radiator?

Aluminum showing through a grill doesn't look good to me. Paint it but be sure to use the special paint for radiators. Regular paint insulates the fins Run it by a radiator shop and they'll put the proper paint on it for just a few bucks and most likely do it right then and there.

    Heater box Question

Ya, work that grey caulk in you hands to warm it and make it a long skinny snake like you used to do with clay as a kid. Then press it on the edge of one side of the box. Put the two halves together and the clips will squeeze the excess out and you can scrape that off with your fingernail or a...

    my custom cnc thermo housing

Nice work on the water neck. But, I have to agree on the hose. Hunt however long it takes to find a molded one that will work to replace that one. You don,t want a silly hose detracting from your nice work.

Yikes- Are these really that valuable?

I am often entertained by some of the items and prices on Ebay. I tell my wife based on Ebay prices the stuff I've got in the shop would make me a millionaire!! The crazy part is that you occasionally see some parts sell for the crazy prices listed.

Donor cars to get electric fans off of? Any suggestions ?

Ford Taurus 3.8L two speed. Early 90s.(They also came on Lincolns) Search the net for info. They'll keep about anything cool and the wrecking yards are full of 'em. The only real drawback is they pull some serious startup amps.

    273 New Water Pump

The last time I needed one I had the same issue with the heater hose requiring and adapter. I went to NAPA armed with the Gates number I had bought several years ago and they only crossed to the one with the larger opening. I went to Oreill and they ordered one and it came with the large hole...

How can engine run cooler than thermostat rating

Put the thermostat in a kettle on the kitchen stove with a candy thermometer. Check the temp when it opens. The little temp number on the thermostat and actual opening temp are often quite different. You can do the same with the temp gauge by placing the sendor in the kettle. Then you'll know.

Electric fan in lieu of Flex Fan

Sorry for the slow reply on the Turd Faurus Fan. Also sorry about all the plastic media in the photo. From the radiator core to the back of the motor it's approx. 4-5/8". From the radiator to the edge of the shroud it's approx. 3-1/2".

Electric fan in lieu of Flex Fan

I'm running an electric fan from a 3.8L Furd Taurus. I'm also using the Delta Current Controller Keith9291 mentioned previously. The combo works wonderfully. I can have up to 3800cfm on full controller speed or 2600cfm drawing 15 amps. The fan usually runs very quietly but if it's a hot day...

    rad and fan!

I used the 3.8 Taurus two speed fan and it moves more air than anything I've seen. They do pull a lot of amps but man do they move the air. I bought an electronic variable speed controller that minimizes amp draw and runs the fan at the speed required. Also runs it after engine shutdown...

    Radiator overflow bottle hoses

It should work. Plumb your radiator overflow hose to fitting in the bottom of the tank, use the top fitting to provide the venting and just ignore the pressure cap and it's related hose. It's purpose will only be to close up the top or a means to add coolant to the tank in this application.

    Electric fan

Here's a good link for wiring with relays. http://www.s-seriesforum.com/how-to-efan.html You can search Taurus fan wiring and find a bunch of info. Mine worked OK with relays per the instructions on the above link..... it's just a BUNCH better with the Delta Controller. So if you can get...

    Electric fan

Well, I went to the web page and found just a blank page. So, I searched around and found notes on several Mustang forums that say the maker, Brian Baskins, hasn't been able to keep up with demand. (He builds them from his house) So he has limited his sales to members of those forums with...

    Electric fan

If you want the Ford fans to work really nicely get a Delta Current Controller and hook it to the high speed wire. The fan speed is then fully variable based on the actual cooling requirement. One of the best mods I have on my Barracuda.

    Electric Fan and Shroud Combo

I've got the Ford Taurus two speed fan and an electronic controller that works absolutely fantastic. It moves a lot of air! The controller works the fan to the necessary level. Fits the radiator in early A-bodies easily too!
