    A833 Factory Paint Markings

Dan, I did not Know you were on our forum. However long it has been, welcome. When I converted my 69 340 Barracuda from an automatic to a four speed, I bought a lot of stuff from Brewers, and you were a big help when I had a few questions. Thanks.

    Clutchless A833

That is truly cool. Once I get going in first gear (with the clutch), I can up upshift and downshift without using the clutch. It's all a matter of matching speed, RPMs and which gear you want. I do NOT do it much, but I have shown people it can be done. Of course, you need the clutch to get going.

    Please help me ID this

I did not know that Brewer's is an awesome company run by awesome dudes. You could not pay me enough to use Passon's, but I would walk across hot coals to use Brewer's.

Too bad the guys from Brewer's are not on this Forum. They would know.

    833 rebuild

I mean NO disrespect to you at all, but after the problems some people had with Jamie's 5 speed 833 replacement transmission, and the super poor customer service he gave at least a few of our members, I would not give him one dime. I do realize that several members have his 5 speed and like...

    833 rebuild

Okay, @hemidart69, I have a couple of questions for you. First; Are you a decent mechanic? @mcodecuda and @Oldmanmopar and @69hemibeep are right. The 833 IS an easy rebuild. About 20 years ago, I converted my 69 Barracuda from an automatic to a 4 speed with parts from a 69 Barracuda Parts car...

What fluid for a 4-speed trans?

OK, my mind is blown! When I rebuilt my 833 about 10 years or so ago, I used 75-90 because I thought that was what we did. I have never heard of using motor oil (20-50) or ATF in an older 4 speed. I know that some modern manual transmissions use ATF, so I guess I can understand that. But is it...

    Clutch kit recommendation needed

I would highly recommend calling Brewer Performance and getting their recommendation. They are nice people and very knowledgeable. They might be a little more expensive than Jegs, but I think it is well worth the difference to deal with them.

Thinking about a Gear Vendors OD. Can Anybody Give Some Guidance?

I drove my 69 340 4 speed Barracuda to a car show on Saturday. It was about 90 miles each way. Every time I drive my car on the highway, I think about how nice an overdrive would be. I have 205/70/14 tires (25.4” tall) and an 833 with 1:1 final ratio. At 65 miles per hour, I am at about 3100...

Who wins the battle to build an A833?

Dan is the BEST! About 15 years ago, I converted my 340 Barracuda fastback from an automatic to a 4 speed. I bought a 340 4 speed parts car for $3200. It was advertised as a running, driving car that could be restored. All I wanted was the transmission, shifter, bell housing, pedals, console...

Who wins the battle to build an A833?

Agreed. @gagembassett, haven't you read what Passon did to our member @matthon? They screwed him over so badly that I felt his pain. I hate to disagree with @abodyjoe, but the problem with Passon was not that the A855 had problems, it has how they refused to own the problems their transmission...

My bad. I did not notice that the part was still in the car. Good Lock.

    A833 shifter plate removal.

Heat and an impact screwdriver. Have you ever used an impact screwdriver? when you hit the backside with a hammer, the bit rotates about 1/16 of a turn. They work great.

    manuel swap

@vindez77, @mbaird does make a good point. I found it to be pretty straight forward, but I am a pretty good working on cars. It is doable for a person with decent mechanical skills. However, if your mechanical abilities are not pretty good, you would probably be better off leaving it as an...

    manuel swap

Who is Manuel? OK. @Projectile Dart is right. you will need to cut a hole in your floor and weld in the 4 speed hump. I did a 3 speed auto floor shift to 4 speed conversion about 15 years ago. It was not all that hard. I think the hardest part was deciding exactly where to cut and where the hump...

    4-Speed Rebuilder Recommendation

First, I would not let Passon touch anything of mine. Second, if you are a decent mechanic, do it yourself as mentioned below. I converted my car to a four speed about 20 years ago with a used transmission. I rebuilt it myself. It was VERY easy. Totally agree. You will only need some good snap...

Converting an automatic 74 Swinger to a 4 speed

I did it to my 69 Barracuda Fastback. It was a lot of work, but it was quite satisfying. Don't try it unless you are a pretty good wrench turner. With the exception of welding in a 4 speed hump, it is pretty straight forward. @AJ/FormS makes a good point. You can get exceptional performance with...

ANY 4 SPEED REBUILD SERVICES IN THE DETROIT AREA????

Normal hand tools and a good pair of snap ring pliers is all I used. I did not have access to a press at the time, so when it came time to press a bearing (if I remember right) off, I took the parts to Topeka Transmission, and for only $60 they pressed off the bearing, put on the synchronizers I...

    Transmission!!???!!! HELP!!!

Have you considered having the 3 speed rebuilt? 3 speeds are much cheaper to rebuild than 4 speeds. If you swap to a 4 speed, there will be a lot of additional expenses. Plus, if you buy a correct, "good" used transmission that fits perfect, how mad are you going to be if it starts grinding? I...

    833 Gear Pitting... Help!

Dude, let it go! You are going to have more money in that when you are done than if you bought a fully rebuilt one with a warranty from Brewers. What you are doing with that transmission is like buying a horrible, wrecked, rust bucket 69 Dart GTS Convertible and then spending $75 restoring it...

    833 Gear Pitting... Help!

That will get rid of the rust, but the pitting and worse damage will still be there. It looks like that tranny had water in it. The Mopar 833 was pretty much bullet proof. There is a chance you could put that in and it would work OK. HOWEVER, do you want to go to the trouble of putting it in and...
