    Which pistol grip?

    They both work, and I've had both in my dart. I like the B body one better because I am over 6 foot tall, and have the seats all the way back. The E body shifter was too long of a throw into 3rd gear for my liking. The B body shifter is a nice feel for me for what it's worth. You want a...

    Early Sure-Grip Questions

    You might not get a lot of help on this here because many don't realize that the early units had split splines. I am not sure increasing the axle will do it unless you are using green axle bearings because the center thrust button controls the engagement. I had the same set up you have but...

    using a 741 case

    Just keep in mind there are two clutch type sure grip units. One has full length spider gears and the other is split. More than one guy I know has stripped his axle splines with the split type. FWIW

    using a 741 case

    I'd get it. There was a whole strength analysis done on 8-3/4's a few years ago and it was quite surprising just how strong the 741 was. I think the bigger concern with them was the tendency to strip out the axle splines due to the engagement of the spiders onto the axles. I have some pictures...

    confused about this sure-grip

    Hmmm clutch style sure grip in a 489? It could be if someone changed the sure grip unit out I guess. I would definatley take a look at this one before I bought it. So the guy doesn't really know what he has but knows the wear pattern looks great Interesting also....

    Try this out http://vexer.com/68rt/speed.html It will tell you exactly the rpm at speed for your combo, tires and all.

    3.23 vs. 3.55

    Hey guys, found this website a while back http://vexer.com/68rt/speed.html one of the cooler for actually figuring out speed and rpm with different tire sizes and gearing.

    3:55 or 3:91?

    Hell, I'm running that with my 3.23's and 14" wheels! Back in "the day' we used to have 2 sets of wheels, 15" tall tires for cruising and 14" 50's or 60's for tracking. Might be cheaper in the long run!
