    Random AC question

Confirm you adapted the larger original A/C compressor to fit on your Magnum swap? Post some pictures of the install please. If you are switching over to R-134, you can swap to a serpentine belt drive and the much smaller and more efficient Sanderson compressor. If you already have a...

    Aftermarket AC Condenser Install

I used to run a twin Spal electric fan set-up with their fan controller. It worked very well, but it required 2 relays and had a soft start fan controller function to reduce the 40 amp current draw those fans have at start up. Obviously, I had to upgrade my electrical system to feed the fans...

    Cowl Inspection Ports

LOL, No leaves in the last 4 years, but I don't have to park under trees either. My grandsons love it when I open the remaining driver's side vent and punch it, because the sound of the intake comes through there loud and clear when at full throttle. Speaking of opening the cowl vents, it's...

    Help cooling 408 stroker

Grab yourself a one of the high performance SPAL twin fan set-ups with controller and twin 40 amp relays. They will clear your water pump and dramatically outflow your current single fan set-up.

    408 Magnum stroker running hot.

Buy yourself an inexpensive lazer temperature probe gun. Get some temperature measurements in various places on the engine and radiator ie hose outlets & inlets specifically. The information it shows can be most revealing.

    CFM vs Diameter

Confirm you are adding this to an existing mechanical fan set-up? Is your car overheating with the stock set-up? Are these pusher fans mounted to the front of the radiator? Both those CFM ratings are pretty low, but the stock electrical system could probably handle them if you use relays.

These are the only pics I have of them.

    Anyone use Vintage Air

It was relatively easy to install the evaporator. I did have to drill a couple holes in the firewall for both mounting bolts and the A/C lines and put 2 nut-certs in the cowl. I used a piece of plastic to with a bit of texture on it to adapt their control panel to my dash hole to replace the...

    Anyone use Vintage Air

I used the Vintage Air Gen IV evaporator with their 3 slide control inside my '68 Barracuda convertible. The servo controls work great, and there are no troublesome manual cables to adapt. It fits in there very nicely and performs well. Yes, it does require blocking off the passenger side cowl...

Any idea how thick the timing cover is behind the water pump?

Years ago, a buddy of mine had an AMC 390 that developed a pinhole leak in the timing cover due to corrosion. It took him quite a while to find that source of his oil contamination.

    Transmission Cooler

Cool. Do yourself a favor, and soak that new timing chain on it's side for a few days in synthetic gear oil. I like to tap the container a few times a day to get any bubbles out and allow the oil to really get inside the rollers etc. I ran out of chainsaw bar & chain oil one year and used some...

    Transmission Cooler

If you plan on fixing your A/C now, obviously replace the condenser with a new Parallel Flow condenser that is compatible with R-134. Nostalgic AC - Parallel Flow Condensers If it's going to be some time before you update and repair your non-working A/C, just leave the existing one in place...

    Transmission Cooler

I installed 2 brass ball valves in my transmission cooler lines, so I can either run the fluid through the radiator cooler to help get the transmission up to temperature for daily driving and then bypass it directly through a pair of plate coolers when racing.

    Adding a Fan Shroud

The small problem I see is that you have to use a solid bolt-on, direct drive to fit your fan with that aftermarket aluminum radiator. Looks like there's no clearance for even the short Jaguar Thermal clutch fan. A buddy of mine had the same problem in his B-Body with 22 inch radiator. He...

    67 barracuda ac conversion

I used the Vintage Air GenV evaporator and controls in my '68. The under hood stuff was sources from Nostalgic Air in Florida. Hoses and under hood fittings were sourced from Summit Racing. Works great.

What to know before adding AC

Yah, pretty much anything that relates to manufacturing technology interests me. The really cool part is applying processes from one facet of application to another unrelated application.

What to know before adding AC

The only thing I didn't see covered here is to pull the front seats and carpet up, treat any rust on your floor and insulate the firewall and floor pan with the two side foil covered insulation. Speedway Motors carries it at a great price with free shipping. Be sure to tape up the seems with...

    electric fan kit

This looks like the Twin SPAL fan set-up I have for sale along with the programmable controller and relays etc. It has a few hundred miles of use on it, and I am using a more factory looking stock clutch fan set-up now instead.

1967 barracuda non ac car air conditioner recommendations

I used the VintageAir Gen 5 in car kit and custom fit the underhood components in both my '70 E-Body and '68 A-Body. The '70 used the Bouchillion under alternator kit and needed the belts rerouted to get better pulley wrap on the compressor, but no big deal. The '68 used the Magnum Serpintine...

    Car running too cold

I had that problem, but only in the winter. I put a piece of cardboard in front on the radiator that blocked about half the airflow. Car warmed right up t normal. I see truckers restricting the airflow on there big rigs when its cold out, so I followed suit.

    Retro fitting an AC setup.

Use a full sized Sanden style compressor, a multi pass R-134 style condenser with a receiver dryer and then install the Vintage Air Gen 5 evaporator(they make smaller units too) and electronic control in the dash where the stock heater controls go. *Be sure to upgrade your electrical system...

    AC underhood component upgrade.

Not sure if your parts are the old stuff or the newer stuff, but R134 requires a multi-pass condenser. the older style R12 condensers only make one pass through them.

5.9 Magnum a/c compressor usage with aftermarket a/c quesion

I used the 2000 Magnum serpentine and A/C set-up in my '68 with Vintage Air's Gen 5 evaporator and a R-134 specific condenser. I used the stock A/C pump manifold with the ends cut off and new ends soldered and crimped on. It looks like it came this way.

Vintage Air Gen IV install in 1968 Barracuda convertible.

Vintage Air Gen IV install in 1968 Barracuda convertible.

My factory heater box worked very well, but this new evaporator blower is even stronger. It's kind of hard to justify the expense of putting A/C in a convertible, but there were many hot days I really wished I had a nice cool breeze in the car with both the top up and the top down, especially...

Vintage Air Gen IV install in 1968 Barracuda convertible.

Here are some additional pics of the install. I had to bend the bracket that faces the passenger seat to allow it to bolt up to the cowl at an angle using nutcerts. The heater hoses go through the stock heater hose holes. I did have to drill two holes to the refrigerant lines, which I could...
