    Exhaust Tips

Keep this in mind when deciding on which tips to run. The shape of the tip makes a huge impact on the sound of your exhaust. Musical wind instruments generally have a flared tip because it just sounds better than other shapes like a straight tube. Think of the tomato can shaped tips on those...

    VHT Paint

I bought TTI headers with the silver outside coating and the ceramic green internal coating. At some point in the first few hundred miles, the first foot or so of the tubes coming from the heads appeared a lot more porous and flat. They had been over heated. A few months later, I had to pull...

How to quiet down my 3" exhaust?

I swapped a set of these into my '68 when it was too loud. Oddly the same e mufflers that were too loud on my '68 are much quieter on my '70. Both have TTI 3 inch full exhaust & headers, but the '70 is a 493" big block and the '68 a 408" stroked Magnum. I also like to run ovalized megaphone...

3" TTI exhaust out the back

I have EFI on the car too, but the hydraulic roller cam I'm running hangs both valves open for quit a while. Even though the wide band says its burning clean, it still burned folks eyes.

3" TTI exhaust out the back

'68 Barracuda with a full 3"TTI system out the back. No fitment issues at all. I used a stainless ovalized megaphone style tip on my set-up to sweeten the sound. It takes the harsh note out of the straight cut pipe end. Same sound altering concept musical instruments have a flared end for...

TTI header and 3" x-pipe exhaust install 69 Cuda

Often times a man's life out here depends upon a mere scrap of information. That being said, I had to reroute my spark plug wires on my 5.9 as indicated in the factory service bulletin to get rid of a mis-fire that showed up on my scanner data. Here;s the info... 5.2/5.9 Misfire TSB 18-48-98

    Headers=more or less heat

If you have the headers coated inside and out, the temperature drop in the engine compartment is dramatic. The way the shorty's go pretty much straight down from the center of the block requires new/modified head pipes, which will be forward of where the current pipes attach and farther from the...

Where to get TTI Headers Recoated?

I took my coated TTi's off, had them sand blasted, sprayed them down with brake cleaner and repainted them with VHT's High Temp paint about 7 years ago. Painted them Matte Black this time instead of the silver they came with from TTI. They still look awesome and I can touch them up as needed. I...

    Idler Arm hitting exhaust?

The idler arm is positioned incorrectly as mentioned above. It holds the arm up to high. I suspect the car probably bump steers pretty good. It may be the wrong part or you need to adjust the mounting bracket as recommended in the Mopar Chassis Bible.

    How is Doug's Black Coating???

Having the inside of the tubes coated after chemically preparing them is hard to do at home. Painting the outside of the headers is easy to do. I have had excellent results using the VHT brand of high temperature paint on my entire exhaust system. It's very durable, easy to use and relatively...

DMH, QTP or RRP electric cutouts?

Avoid Doug's and Pypes. I've also tried several others...ended up with QTP's. They last the longest so far.

    Wideband O2 Sensor location advise

I assume you are going to permanently mount it. The O2 sensor itself can be mounted at or just after the collector anywhere on the pipe except at or near the bottom of the pipe, Mount it somewhere it is up and out of the way. Your split plane manifold feeds two pairs of cylinders on either...

    Ceramic coating

I repainted my coated TTI's that began to look rough with matte black with 2 cans of VHT High Temperature paint from Summit. They look awesome, the coating is durable and I can touch them up as needed. I ended up doing my entire exhaust all the way to the tips as well. It looks great black.

    Cut outs

I was a disbeliever until I drove a buddies car with them on it. I was hooked. It's not about the sound at wide open throttle for me. I can live happily without that and have only done a full throttle blast or two with them open. I like the sound when I open them when pulling into and out of...

    tti exhaust systems

My '68 has a full 3" TTI w stock tank and rear spring location. The only tight spot is where the tubes bend around the front corners of the fuel tank. There in plenty of room along the sides of the tank. I also used that stick on aluminized heat shielding on the tank where the pipes pass by it...

    Worth the headache?

I'd save your money, get the distributor properly curved and start buying some basic shop tools such as a floor jack, jack stands, hand tools and an air compressor. If you want to have more power later down the road, you'll be able to spend you money on parts and save the labor cost for...

To run cutouts or not run cutouts, that is the question.

I had a set of Race Ready's and they always drifted open slightly. I called the tech guy, and he told me it's a known issue. I returned then, and they gave me a full refund.

To run cutouts or not run cutouts, that is the question.

I've tried about 3 different brands of electric cutouts on my '70 E-Body. Some drifted open and leaked, others just quit working. My buddy had a pair of QTP's on his car for over a decade until we smashed one on a big whoop-de-do at 80 mph down near the LA desert. I put a fresh set on his car...

    Stainless exhaust tips

I like to run ovalized megaphones on my stuff. They are about a foot long, 5" wide and about 2 inches tall at the opening. They enhance the sound in a way similar to the flare enhances the sound of trumpets etc.

    need headers

I've been using the Summit headers on my '68 for 3 years now, and still going strong. The rest of my exhaust is also from Summit. I run Hooker Aero Chambers and foot log oval-megaphone tips on it too. The cost of the entire system was less than a set of TTI's or Doug's headers. It works great...

    Exhaust cutouts

The final sound depends a lot upon the install, and whether or not they have a tip on the end. One of my buddies had a shop install a set on his Hemi Road runner. The shop installed them facing backwards. it sounded very odd. He was pretty disappointed in the outcome after hearing how my '70...

    Exhaust cutouts

The ones I tried from this place would drift open and leak enough to hear an exhaust leak. About 5 years ago, the tech guy said it was a known issue that they couldn't resolve. They did quickly refund my $. I wonder if they finally figured it out, Ironmike? How long ago did you get yours?

    Exhaust cutouts

I've tried several of the brands available on the Summit website. None of them sealed completely, or lasted. After a while, they would drift open slightly and sound like an exhaust leak or stop working all together. Pipes brand were the worst. My buddy, who got me hooked on them, had a set of...

What exhaust sounds good for 340s?

Also, the tips you have on the end or not make a huge difference in the final sound. I even have tips on my electric cutouts. I like oval megaphone shaped tips that are about a foot long the best, but the factory style tips on my '70 E-Body sound cool too. They all create a distinct tone.

    Mufflers Without a Drone

I pulled my Dynomax Super Turbos from both my cars and went with Hooker Aero Chambers. Best sounding/performing muffler I ever had. You can see right through them too. They are quiet at idle and part throttle, and not too loud at wide open throttle. I'm I big proponent of using oval-shaped...

    Doug's or Hooker (Magnum swap)

Schumacher mounts and a 2000 5.9 here. I used the Summit brand headers with the Milidon 7qt oil pan. Bead blasted the stock paint off the headers and sprayed them with VHT high temp paint. They look great, seal perfect and fit very well. They were well under $200 including blasting and...

    dougs electric cutouts?

There's no way to add a megaphone type tip on the end, as there is no flange to weld it to. Cutouts benefit greatly with the addition of a small megaphone style tip, much like horned musical instruments.
