    MSD E-curve Distributor Set Up???

I had a lot of trouble with Don's distributor initially. He had my full engines specs, and built it as I described. When I got the distributor, I could not get the engine to start. After running down the battery for the 3rd (!) time, I finally figured out he (they?) had installed the reluctor in...

    MSD E-curve Distributor Set Up???

FWIW, I run a FBO recurved mopar distributor with 16 inital, 34 total mechanical, and 12 vacuum. Starts easy, idles good (would like 20 inital, though!), and the ET/MPH (best of 12.003 @ 111 mph) are best at around 32 to 34 total. The Vacuum is great for cruising and highway. With my 408, a...

MPG The Best Of Both Worlds

Actually it would be 6 mpg assuming he ran it dry, which is 20% more than 5 mpg :-D Likely he's only running out 14 gallons (2 gallons left), which would be 96/14 = 6.85 mpg. That stinks (or sucks, as opposed to sips), but not as bad as 5, but only barely not as bad.

MPG The Best Of Both Worlds

I have a 73 Duster, 3400 lbs w/o me, 408 Edel heads, M1, 9.8:1 static (about 8.7 static) comp, 236/242 hyd roller, 4000 Dynamic 9.5" conv, 727 manual reverse into a 3.73 Dana. With the old Holley 750 DP, my best ET was 12.26 and 8 mpg. With a 850 ThermoQuad, my best ET is 12.09 and I have...

Effect of MisMarked Damper +5 degrees?

Blowing oil out of the dipstick at >3000 rpms and literally pushing out the PVC valve and blowing oil all on the underside of the hood at high rpms.

Effect of MisMarked Damper +5 degrees?

Yeah, this is before tuning, a worn out convertor and with the excessive timing. With tuning and the new convertor on slicks it did get into the 12 teens. When we took it apart, the rings looked good, but the cylinder walls were smooth. Still not sure why I had so much blowby, unless the...

Effect of MisMarked Damper +5 degrees?

I have not had the engine dynoed, but I did get a Chasis dyno run in at the Souther nationals 2 years ago. Also, below is a pic of the est. from Dyno2003. Reckon the +5 degrees could cause blowby?

Effect of MisMarked Damper +5 degrees?

Interestingly enough, the front rod bearings (1 & 2) were in fact worn to the copper, with the others showing wear as well. Did not check for ring to land clearance, first I have heard of that. Interestingly enough, I made a run a while back, suspected the timing, and double checked it...

Effect of MisMarked Damper +5 degrees?

I was recently mocking up my 408, after I recently tore it down. With the crank back in and damper installed, with a dial gage, I determined true TDC to double check the damper marks. Low and behold, the damper was off by 5 degrees! Effectively increasing whatever i thought my timing was by 5...

    ign. timing 340 vs. 416

I have a 360-408 running the KB346 with Eddys running 9.6 compression. Mine likes 30 degrees the best. I have run 28, 30, 32, 34 at the strip on a single day (15 runs in one T&T session!), and the 30 yielded the lowest times.

    Getting The Right Compression Ratio...

Try this calculator on the Keith Black website http://www.kb-silvolite.com/calc.php?action=comp I have the KB 2308, with the Edel Performer Heads, and a 0.039 Head Gasket, and my compression is too low, static at 9.6, and dynamic at 8.7. Should have gone with the 2310's more compression...

    Street\Strip 408..Boiling it all down

GREAT! What headers & compression are your running? What Intake? What size exhaust. My best 1/8 is 7.862, which adjusts to about 12.05, with slicks & open headers. I would like to get into the 11's, and think it is doable with tuning.

    Street\Strip 408..Boiling it all down

I re-re-re-adjusted the Passenger side, and only tightened to no lash, where I could not rock the rocker (?) by hand. Put on the cover, tightened it up, and it made lots of racket. Retightened all by 1/2 turn, and it helped, but now it's just noisy. May try the stamped rockers, but not sure...

    Street\Strip 408..Boiling it all down

The rockers are the ones Indy included back (3 years ago) when they sold Ede3l Perf RPM heads ported and polished. The pushrods are custom ones from Hughes Engines, to go with the roller tipped rockers. They are noisy, though, much more so than I would have thought. I've heard this is typical...

    Street\Strip 408..Boiling it all down

If it is a 91 360 block, that should be a factory roller cam setup. I have a 89 360 block running a comp cam extreme energy cam in my 408 stroker.
  17. jimmyray

    stroker?

[-XDon't do it. All of that torque and wheelspin are annoying. You be wanting to upgrade the rearend , get slicks, and work on your 60' times. Nothing but trouble.

    Small block strokers. Your findings.

I used an extreme energy can from Comp, with Mopar (stock) replacement roller lifters from Hughes engines. Since I went with adjustable rockers, I had to get custom pushrods. Since my heads came with them, I used them. I'm not sure if the factory rockers would work with a .544 lift, but they...

    Disappointing ET's with 408 - UPDATE

I do have a set of M/T 14" G (equiv 255/60's) series Indy SS tires with the "hot and sticky" compound, wonder if they would hook better if I warmed them up first. Only problem is that they are 26" tires, which effectively increased the gearing (from 4.10 to 4.42), and may negate the advantage...

    engine/wheel dyno results

Dynos can be tricky. My 73 Duster with a 408 stroker only chassis dyno'd at 280 hp, but so far I have a best run of 12.88, which calculates to 314 hp on the http://www.mopartech.net/mtcalcs.htm calculators.

    Small block strokers. Your findings.

I can attest to that! 408 stoker, big roller cam, 10:1 comp, 3000 stall and 4:10 8.25 sure grip rear gear. 275-50 17's Nitto 450's on rear of my 73 Duster. I can only launch at 3000 with foot brake, and feed in the throttle gradually - it will light them up otherwise! If I change gears...

    Indy Edelbrock heads

They get raw castings, relocate the pushrods and use offset rockers to increase the flow on the intake side. Supposedly good for a few extra ponies over the regular edel heads. Jim
