Yes it is a thing. Two years ago I had trouble with another car - Ford Falcon - 6-cyl car. If not used for a week, the battery would die off to the point where starting was nearly impossible. Of course, I blamed the battery, and after spending another $200 local money....I was proven wrong...

40 Amps is enough in the sense that your car hasn't burnt to the ground. :lol: I suspect it should be more like 60 Amps, but that depends upon your wiring condition and of course your alternator output, and the loading you place upon it. A few variables to weigh up .......and it's difficult...

Check your door switches - they may be corroded or have a bad contact via the threads - remove, clean and reposition.

Without the ability to see a circuit diagram, I suggest that the lamp comes on when the door opens....therefore, this lamp operates the same as the ceiling light. The orange goes to other lamps, and eventually the switch is the ground point.

Like a Ford I wired a few years ago, you may have to connect a diode inline with the ignition circuit. Worked on a Ford, so it may be the same for your One-wire Mopar issue. The installation of the diode is clearly shown in the MSD wiring diagrams. :)
