1971 duster need help with tire size

If you are not looking for a wider tire you can go with a 205/70/15, had those up front with 15x6 wheels and 275/60/15 with 15x8s in the rear.

    Tire expansion under throttle?

Yeah thats ALOT more room then I have had on any of my street driven cars.

    Tire expansion under throttle?

True, but if there is not enough clearance than does that even matter???:D:poke:

    Tire expansion under throttle?

If are looking for a drag/dual purpose tire and not just some big radials to cruise with I would probably go smaller on diameter to make sure you have enough room. The manufacturer should be able to give you that info.

    Tire expansion under throttle?

The deal is growth vs changing shape, the radial will change shape and the sidewalls/shoulders will stand up but if you taped it the overall diameter would have changed almost nothing. A slick by contrast will grow roughly 1-1.5 inches or so depending on the design etc. The problem is if you...

    Tire expansion under throttle?

You probably know already since you are asking but the average radial tire will grow less than a bias or race type tire. If you just want some big radials you should check these out, they are not an exact match to the size you have on the car now but they have a couple that are close...

Front Tire Size on a Demon?

This is the trick to getting the fronts tucked in, I usually like to run a 15x5 with 3.5 backspacing and a 205 70 15 for an aggressive but in the wheel well look.

    Drag Radials vs Slicks

Just my experience but I had zero luck with anything other than the mickey thompson drag radials on my lead sled 4k lb Pontiac with a 455/t400 and 3.42s, it would shred the bfg drag radials like vw tires. With slicks I had to air them down so much the dam thing wobbled like crazy at the big end-...

    Drag Radials vs Slicks

I love the et street radials, as other have said they are way more stable on the big end and faster if you have a good suspension setup. They will not work with a stick though.

    Tire mounting question

Its tough to get them not to,if you havent already done so try to mount them 180 from where they are at now and spin them again. They are a pain in the ***!.

    Tire mounting question

Alot of people run them without tubes and have no problems.Bias tires have nylon cords and are not plyable until they are "warmed up",they also are more prone to having an out of round issue.I would take them to a local tire shop and watch them spin on the balancer to see how bad they are,we...

    275/60 on a Demon?

I have 15x8s with 275/60/15s on my 71 duster and the car sits low with the tires in the wheel wells.I had to flatten out the buldge on the outside wheel because the tires would touch when hitting a large bump. Its a nice mod to do since it really increases the room and theres no need to worry...

    275/50/15 on a 7" wheel ?

Unfortunately you will not make good use of the wider low profile tire,it will be strecthed over the rim and pull the outer edges down and you will have a high spot in the middle. No matter how much you air them down the minute you hit the gas they will gow and you will be back to having all your...

How many miles out of your drag radials?

The nittos are the hardest compound, bfgs the softest and mickeys are in the middle.Ive ran all when I worked at a tire store and the mickeys worked the best for me hands down, couldnt even get the bfgs to hook and the nittos required alot lower psi than the mickeys and longer burnouts/more...

    BFG's or MT's Radials?

I had zero luck with the bfgs, blew them off everytime at the starting line, ran the same size in a mickey and went from a best 60 ft. of 1.97 to a 1.68 in a 3800 lb. car with alot of torque and stock suspension.

    drag radials??

That is a sweet ride,I would have had a harder time selling that.

  19. lead69

    drag radials??

Mickey thompson drag radials hands down,I ran the bfgs and they sucked, also the nittos are much harder and dont hook near as well.I ran 25 psi in the mickeys with a 3800 lb. car making 540 lb ft of torque with stock supspenson including front and rear sway bars and hooked conistently with 60 ft...

    MT Drag Radial Tire Pressure

I ran mine at 25 believe it or not-of course they were 295/65/15s,hooked to a 1.68 60 ft. on stock suspension, excellent tires.

    Rallye rim tire size

What the guys are saying about wear is true but its not at all unsafe and if you keep the pressure a bit lower they will wear o.k..I know quite a few people running them on a 5.5 rims including my cousins dart and he has alot of street time-about four years worth and they are just now ready for...

    Which drag radials to use???

Ive ran both and the bfgs just shredded off the line with any p.s.i.,the mickeys hooked even with 28 p.s.i. and a decent burn out-this was in the same conditions with the same car.I also ran the mt radials up against a set of mt slicks and they did a slightly better 60 ft. and were alot more...

    What's The Stickiest Street Tire?

They make the 315/60/15 mt et which is 30x13.50x15,I ran the next size down and they were definitely 30x12.50 and hooked like hell.

is there a drag radial that will fit 5.5 steel rim

Actually its not a huge problem, think about all the guys running 26-8-14 slicks on stock 14x5.5s,with a taller sidewall of a 15 you just run a little less psi to flatten out the contact patch. You also have to take into consideration how many guys are running 275-60-15s on 7 inch rims with...

is there a drag radial that will fit 5.5 steel rim

    14 or 15?,I dont think anybodys making them for a 14,if its 15 I would go with a 235-60-15.

    Hoosier Pro Street

Adams right, those are designed as a modern alternative to biased tires,wider/larger sizes but radials so you can have the pro street without the squirm-those things are available in some massive sizes!.If you really want a drag radial the best imo are the mickeys,I used all of them and they...

    Hoosier Quick times ? 27/11.50/15

    Mickey Thompson Tires

I think thats your best bet,Ive ran the mt et radials and put alot of miles on them-rain and shine-and I have to say they held up well considering what they are.I always worried about something bad happening so I use plain old radials for cruising now and put the ets on to head to the track-and...
