Small block water pump pulley question

I’m assembling a bastard installation, engine was procured without anything else. looks like the pulley should be around 2-1/2” deep but would need to measure. The one I have is about 1-1/2” which isn’t deep enough.

I wiped one in my 70:challenger 340. My Kid did me a favor and changed oil for me, forgot that It was flat tapped and used regular oil without zinc. 100 miles later the cam was gone along with a bunch of my money to repair.

LD4B OR LD340 FOR 273?? Coil mount?? Need pics

Sorry, See where I misread now. FYI, it is my understanding that the LD4B is a 340 manifold and the D4B is for a 273. I am putting a 340 together and have a D4B, looking for a better fit for my 340, which is why I chimed in. Good luck!

340 Clean Slate - what to do

Definitely a D4B, though I have had it on a 340 before as I used it to break in my T/A motor, was worried about the six pack for breaking it in. I have heard before that the cam can have a big effect on this and definitely need a pump gas capable unit. Any guidance on this is welcome since it...

340 Clean Slate - what to do

Thanks for all the input, greatly appreciated. I doubt that I can get hands on the cash required to do a stroker, perhaps down the road. The manifold I have is a DB4 and I also have a Holley 750DP to go with it. I figure it should be touched to match the ports to he heads which we can do as...

340 Clean Slate - what to do

We (my son and I) have been doing body work etc on our 70 swinger project for a little over a year and are getting to the point where it is time to start thinking motor. We have shortened a C body 8 3/4 for the rear with 3:921 sure grip and installed disks off a 73. We installed a hump for the...

    340 ignition timing.

When I set mine I set the engine at 10 degrees BTC and put a plug in the number wire, then turned the distributor until the plug sparked. This was good enough to get me running, then I set the engine for 36 total since that was where the engine performed best on the dino.

what do you think of these rockers?

The cast rockers are supposed to be used with hardened shafts which are different than the shafts used with the standard "clamshell" rockers. Looks like you had a soft shaft which works fine for the clamshell rockers. The rockers can be bushed but need to be fitted to the proper shafts.

    6 pack, or 4bbl?

I was fortunate enough to buy a T/A challenger in 1975 and would not trade my 6 pack for any 4 barrel. I also don't see what the issue is with tuning these, my outboard carburators don't have metering plates so whats to tune there?
