    The 70 Duster......

Nice thread. Where do you get your engine work done? I'm down here in Lubbock.

    1970 Plymouth Duster

318 motor casting is dated 10/25/69 on the side of the block. Looks like HP & torque ratings are: V8-318 2-bbl 230 @ 4400 320 @ 2000 45-65 Not bad, maybe I'll put it in my 73 that I have for sale.

    1970 Plymouth Duster

Here is my reset at doing an old A-body. Just sold the old Dart Sport since I never really liked the beak and there was more work required on the Dart to get it up to my standards than there is on this one. This Duster is an original Slant 6 automatic car that the P.O. had replaced with a 318...

This is why I sold it. I'll open a new thread for the 70 Duster.

    74 Dart Sport Frankenstein

So here's what I have right now. I recently purchased two 8-3/4 rear ends. One is an A-Body 741 out of a '70 Duster and the other is a C-Body 489 out of a '72 Newport. I am going to put the 489 in the A-Body housing and buy some Dr. Diff axles for it. Or, I guess I could get the C-Body axles...

I did pull the crank from the 1st engine, I have two 413 forged cranks now. The pistons were seized and I cut the forged rods off to get the crank out. :wack: I know where another 64 New Yorker is sitting if I really want some forged rods. Kinda sucked but I couldn't get them unfrozen to...

How do you think this guy lowered his ride? I've been trying to figure that one out.

    74 Dart Sport Frankenstein

Been sidetracked with changing the motor in my truck. It threw a rod and I've been busy with that one. I finally got the 489 8-3/4" out of a B-body and I'm ready to shorten the axles. I have an A-body housing so it doesn't need to be shortened. Where is a good reputable place that I can...

I think the motor is ready to go to the engine builder to at least get started.

    74 Dart Sport Frankenstein

Spent last week and made a tour of Texas looking for parts that I found on internet and salvage yards. Lubbock, Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Abilene and back. Not too much buying due to prices of the stuff but it was fun anyway. I did get some nice bench seats. Had my eye on...

I wasn't too happy with the inside of the 64 New Yorker motor so I went and found another 413 with only 58,565 miles on it. Crank and rods look new. Crank is forged but rods are cast. Oh well, can't have it all.

413 Donor (64 New Yorker) for crank & rods.

    74 Dart Sport Frankenstein

Need some ideas on how to pull this donor 413 out of this '64 New Yorker. It looks like dropping it out the bottom is an option. I've never done it this way before so I don't want to get crushed in the process. Is there a step by step somewhere?

Picked up a 413 today from a 64 New Yorker. Forged crank baby!

I have the dimensions below. I can't figure out what I actually have without knowing if there are casting numbers on the housing. There is no carrier assembly or pig as you called it. Mine still has the brake pads (no drums) on it so it is hard to get exact measurements. This is what I...

What color is this car? I've seen a couple Mopars painted like this.

    74 Dart Sport Frankenstein

I found a complete 1964 413 big block so I'm going to get it for the crank and rods. Any value in the rest of the motor?

Where is the casting number on an 8-3/4" rear end? Is there one on the housing or just the carrier?

Got it. I guess I assumed that you had a slant 6. Mine is a slant 6 and going to the BB 400. Thanks.

Met a guy down in Abilene today that had a nice collection of Mopars. Pretty good guy and I will keep in touch with him for sure. Was impressed with his collection of 5, yes I said FIVE, 426 Hemis. :prayer: Some people have all the fun!!!

How did the suspension take that extra weight up front? Did you do anything to compensate.

Because this is Texas and nothing about old cars is cheap here. Even the Pick n Pull junkyards are about a $150 for a plain old rear end. And all the guys with 8-3/4" rear ends on Craigslist are not selling them for $100. I was quoted $1000. BUT ANY OF YOU GUYS IN TEXAS THAT ARE WILLING TO...

Those were odd cars, no offense. I found this one pretty much complete. Was your's the "P" or the "N" 400? This one was a "P." http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=275318 I got 400 drivetrain pretty cheap!!! If it turns out bad, then I've got a 340 and 4 speed ready but...

What do I want? I don't know, I guess we'll see. This isn't a freakin' enterprise application and integration program that I have to deliver to a client. Those kinds of plans stay at work. This is my hobby and time waster that uses up my bonus checks. I'll figure it out as I go.

    74 Dart Sport Frankenstein

Good idea on the gears. I checked this one and it's a 3.21. Remember this one is pretty much a gimme since it was such a cheap buy. I'm not going to find an 8.75" that is going to fit this car so I'm going to have to mod it anyway.
