    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

Vipe the dist in the picture is not broken, and I bought it new. Some of 'em have that flange and some don't. Luckily the Cardone Select that I ordered does have it so I'm thinking I'm all-set, just haven't installed it yet, and I don't intend to run the car another 2 hours to find out. I'm...

    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

OK the results are in. I put the van dist in the Duster and ran the car for close to 2 hours with no leak at all. Unfortunately the Duster dist, when run in the van, did not leak so I can't positively blame the dist exclusively for this. Maybe it's a combination of the dist being a little...

    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

Moper negative on all. No vapors, no resistance at-all with hand over the oil fill, no other oil leaks except that valve cover, and I don't think that's leaking anymore. I pulled the dist and inverted it to drain the oil from it (seriously). I see no obvious problem. I remembered that my old...

    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

I should add that the leak is appearing in as little as 10 minutes now, not the 30-45 I said before. It has to be a bad seal or a crack or something that is allowing splashed oil to get up in there somehow through the shaft. I will report back.

    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

1st of all guys, I'm not looking for someone to do my troubleshooting for me (I know nobody's suggesting that) but after Mopers post now I'm sure that this is an interesting topic and that's why I posted it. (Moper, it's a MP dist from an electronic ign conversion kit). Even though I was 100%...

    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

I saw PCV mentioned in other posts. To the best of my knowledge/research, the engine is setup "correctly" with the correct breather for the ECS system and a PCV valve, see pics. Oddly though, I also had a persistent oil leak at the RR valve cover. Tried the expensive Mopar gasket and I think...

    Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"

Fresh 340, new distributor. After high-idling for 30-45 minutes (but not before) I'm getting a steady oil drip between the engine/trans. Usual troubleshooting begins. Determined to be the dreaded "near the base of the distributor" leak. With the help of a cool "magnet on a gooseneck" from...

    Installing motor Tuesday

http://mitchamatrudo.com/Duster/duster.html Thanks guys....Yes, it's the correct colors. At least I hope so. Having fun putting everything back together now. Restoration page link is at the top of this post. I'm way behind in updates though.

    Installing motor Tuesday

All-set in just over 3 hours, and most of the time was spent with some trans/TC issues getting everything mated-up. My gut told me to do without the leveler, but since I went right by Auto Zone on the way home from Taylor Rental I figured I might as well try it. Y'all are right, that's a great...

    Installing motor Tuesday

Cool guys. I'll do all that you said. I was gonna raise the front of the car but I see now how raising the rear would make a lot more sense. I'm glad I asked. Last motor job was like 1982 other than the party van which is a whole different deal. Seems like I've heard Sireland's final words of...

    Installing motor Tuesday

Oh yeah I'm gonna cover everything real good and remove the hood. I'll prolly end-up going with the leveler. When I do the old party van in the near future I'm sure it'll come in handy for that too.

    Installing motor Tuesday

Hey thanks guys. I'll decide in the morning about the leveler. Both AutoZone and HF show them in-stock so those would be my only available choices. Did the research and MOST guys say they're OK. I'll have to choose between the risk of another possible weak link in the system, or trusting 2...

    Installing motor Tuesday

Searched but found surprisingly little info. Motor going-in the old-fashioned way from the top. I'm hoping to bolt the motor and tranny together first with exh manifolds, starter, pulleys, motor mount brackets. This is 1970 Duster 340 all original stuff. Most of the info I found was for guys...

    340 block question, opinions please

STITCHING STITCHING STITCHING.....Looks like a perfect candidate to me. Can't believe nobody else mentioned it. You'll probably need a donor block. See my web page and scroll down to Fall/Winter 2009. Click the slide show icon for bigger pics. http://mitchamatrudo.com/Duster/duster.html

    340 Choke Cup

:DThanks for the reply. I will leave it as-is.

    340 Choke Cup

1970 340 stock cast iron intake, AVS carb. I got a choke cup from a guy but it's too big to fit into the well in the intake. I also got a new "repro" choke. It fits nicely into the well by itself. There only seems to be 1 choke cup kit out there and that's the one thats too big so my guess...

    sandblasting engine

Somebody mentioned oven cleaner. Not just for your situation but in general. Just sayin I use it all the time for gross decon but get it at the dollar store. A buck a can is way cheaper than the legendary "G" product. (cant beat that gunk smell though)
