Converting 68 Valiant Rear to use 15" wheels

Close enough on the clocking that it wont matter. Glad you dug the way I shortened it. I know it's definitely straight. Also if you do the big bolt pattern upgrade, hunt for a 2002 Lincoln town car donut spare. Its 25" diameter, and only 5" width. It's the big bolt pattern, with a light weight...

Converting 68 Valiant Rear to use 15" wheels

I shortened an 8.8 housing long end and will put this rear under my kids car. I plan on putting it all back together this winter. I will have about $500 in it total with new bearings, clutches, brakes, extra short side axle, and includes its purchase price. I hunted until I found the gear ratio...

Converting 68 Valiant Rear to use 15" wheels

What is your eventual intent for the car? Do you plan on keeping it stock 225 slanty, or do you have plans for a V8. If you intend to keep it a slanty but want the option of disc brakes, take a look at the "scarebird" front disc brake conversion kit. It uses the stock existing drum brake...

Converting 68 Valiant Rear to use 15" wheels

Ford explorer 8.8. Narrow LH long end tube about 2&7/8" Install a second short side RH axle in LH after shortening. This makes it only 3/8" narrower than a stock A body rear after you shorten it Has 5 bolt 4.5" bolt circle with 1/2" studs. Same as front discs Most have good gear ratios 3 23...

1975 Swinger slant 6 Rallye wheels from Coker

Small bolt pattern disc brakes only thru 1972. K-H 4 piston type. 1973 up disc brakes are big bolt pattern and single piston calipers. You wont find 4 piston small bolt pattern brake setup on a 73 up A body unless somebody swapped it onto the car after it left the factory

1975 Swinger slant 6 Rallye wheels from Coker

No problem. I thought they all switched to BBP in 1973 as well till I saw my first SBP 1974 one and it was a strippo slanty 4 wheel drum car. I dunno if the intent was to use up extra inventory on the assembly line, or a different reason.

1975 Swinger slant 6 Rallye wheels from Coker

Nope. Base strippo model slanty cars also came with SBP and 4 wheel drums with either 9" or 10" drums up front thru i believe 1975, and possibly 1976 but I have not seen one as new as 1976. The real gem though is if you find one of these SBP 73-75s in the junkyard and it has the 10" finned...

    clearing big wheels?

I will let others chime in, but those may hit on the front.
  11. moparmat2000

Well, I am not sure if this should go on suspension or here, but here goes

Theres a sticky on the 8.8 swap. But heres the cliffsnotes version. I have put lots of info on that including shortening the long side axle tube. Cant beat em all SAE hardware ( except caliper bolts) 31 spline truck axles, most have limited slips , clutch type so rebuild able, are 5 bolt 4.5"...

    Anyone using donut spares?

Nope. I test fit on the explorer 8.8. It cleared the brakes with room to spare, did not offset backso far as to hit the leafs. In the front, it cleared the cordoba brakes just fine. Center is wide open enough to clear everything.

    Anyone using donut spares?

Will be running 25" tall tires 225-60R15s with an 8.8 exploder rear with locker, and 4 wheel discs. Fronts are 79 cordoba big brakes. Wanted something that lays flat, and will clear the brakes at both ends. Without further Adieu, I give you the 2002 lincoln town car donut spare solution. It's...

Where can I find this wheel & tire combo!

Years ago those were called "chrome modulars" they also used to have them with chrome rim hoop, and gold anodized centers, with black button head allen screws. Those were called "chrome and gold modulars" Of course that was the late 1980s though. I dont think you can get them with the gold...

    Wheel Bolt Patterns

I guess for circle track the FMJ UCA can be adapted to fit.

    Wheel Bolt Patterns

As an FYI too, if you find a 73 up SBP car with finned 10" drums in the junky, it uses the 73-76 upper A arms with the larger K772 ball joint. Those are worth grabbing. A local circle track guy out by me grabbed up all the stock A body LBJ upper arms to destroy on the dirt track. He passed over...

What will fit my 8.8 rear with disk brakes

Stinktooth which 8.8 axle and brakes are you using? The ford explorer, or a mustang ? This will help to figure this out. Post pix of the brakes as well.

What will fit my 8.8 rear with disk brakes

Does the mustang setup use a caliper with built in parking brake? If so, the disc is smaller diameter. The explorer rotor has an integral drum and small shoe brakes for the E brake like the jeep cherokee setup. This makes the rotor a lot bigger, and the caliper stick up more.

What will fit my 8.8 rear with disk brakes

A 15" is pretty tight. If a 14 doesnt hit I would be really suprised.

  23. moparmat2000

    Wheel Date Code

Nope. Wheel manufacture as well as all the other parts if you want to be correct about it, will pre date the vehicles manufacturing date. It would make no sense at all to build it, then say whoah, hold up this one car for about 2.5 weeks till we get some more wheel rims to come in. Assembly...
