The Kelsey-Hayes Disk Brake Swap Thread

Can you really get away with swapping the spindle without backing off the t-bar?

The Kelsey-Hayes Disk Brake Swap Thread

Yes, if you are swapping the spindle you will have to back off the preload on the t-bars. Upper ball joint takes a special socket. It can be done at home. The upper ball joint is easier to do with the control arm still attached after the spindle is out, it takes a bit of leverage to get the...

The Kelsey-Hayes Disk Brake Swap Thread

Does Chrysler part # 6036511AA have the correct shoulder diameter and length? It is the right thread and looks to be the right overall length. Also has thread locking compound. It is a replacement seat belt anchor bolt that you can get over the counter for about $5. If your local dealer has...

Help me identify this brake drum

It would be cheaper to get new axles and convert to rear disk than pay $300 each for SBP drums.

Help me identify this brake drum

The raised center part on the axle locates the drum. If the OD of the axle center register is 2.28" and the ID of a drum that fits is 2.8" then you would make a ring with an ID of 2.28" and an OD of 2.8" that the drum would locate to. This is common practice to make high performance wheels...

Help me identify this brake drum

So let's assume that these are re-drilled SBP drums. If you find a 5x4-1/2" bolt circle drum that fits otherwise, but the center register is too big I would consider making a hub ring, this would be a one time deal and then you can buy off the shelf drums. Just a thought.

With the smaller center bore I am starting to think you are right. It appears the 5x4 bolt pattern drums have a 2.31" hub register: http://www.stockwiseauto.com/images/products/CEN/12263044.jpg And the 5x4.5" drums have a 2.81" register and come a little wider...

I think 10x1.75" is also a B-body size. Here is a picture of a front drum on a '68 GTX... looks identical. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/suspension/mopp_0610_plymouth_gtx_disc_brakes_install/photo_03.html

Further research yields: http://www.racingjunk.com/Rear-Ends/182103050/Moser-Engineering-axles.html These are for a Chevy, but the marking from the forging is the same. The studs were probably trimmed to fit the lugs. Moser used to sell these specifically to convert A-body axles to BBP

The 8-3/4" A body would have 9" drums, never seen one that was different.

Those may be "Moser Engineering" axles... definitely not OEM.

Help me identify this brake drum

If this is an A-body axle housing someone may have had axles shortened from a C-body or especially made. I did this on several cars in the 80's including mine. I would buy C-body axles and send them to Moser who would cut them and respline to fit an A-body housing. I would use 10x2-1/2"...
