Hyundai's New Spark Plug Safeguards The Future Of The Combustion Engine

Back on topic, Pulstar Plugs incorporates a Peaking Cap into their plugs for a much more intense spark from the same coil. Brisk offers Multi-Spark plugs in a different package than Hyundai.

Is there a stand alone timing control module

MegaSquirt started out as a college thesis project in 1996. By 2001 Bowling & Grippo worked out the majority of the bugs -- MS2. It has evolved over the past 20 years, so it is a mature technology. Reliability falls in your court. The MS2 can be purchased pre-assembled, or as a kit. If you...

Is there a stand alone timing control module

You could probably use the MegaSquirt MS2 or MS3. Inexpensive, just don't need the fuel control. In addition, you could use the spare I/O's to run an electric cooling fan or something else cool.

    Custom wiring job question ?

I'd replace every single fusible link with an appropriately sized fuse. Fusible links are slow-blow. Just be sure to use fuses that are also slow-blow.

    LED conversion, 1971 Scamp

The only thing that comes to mind as common to both turn signal sides is the turn signal switch in the steering column. Remove both front LED bulbs. Install only 1 normal bulb. Check for voltage at the other socket with a digital VOM. I'm thinking the voltage is there with normal bulbs, but...

Initial experimentation with external shunt ammeter

A few posts requested more technical information on what this thread is all about. Here is my attempt at shedding some light. The concept stems from Ohm's Law where V=I/R; V=Volts, I=Current, and R=Resistance. Shunts are highly accurate small value resistors, often <1 Ohm in resistance...

    Strange VOM Issue

I discovered that analog VOMs are almost always low impedance. Tried reading an O2 sensor on my '73 RR and it kept reading 0 volts. Tried using a digital VOM and got the correct output voltage. I have an old analog sweep VOM I haven't used in years. Kept it around for testing TPS sensors.

    E3 spark plug inconsistency

About a decade ago a buddy turned me on to Pulstar Plugs. They're a bit pricey, but that's all I've run ever since. They keep the #1 cylinder on my 4.0 Jeep GC from oil fouling (no other plug survives cylinder #1).

1974 Brain Box saves the day.

Those leads are too close to the metallic heat sink for comfort. It seems too easy to bump the dang thing & short out the MOSFET. [Edit] Just noticed plastic protectors on the leads. Oops!

1974 Brain Box saves the day.

Just read through the post. Transistors were as good as it got back in the 1970's. I designed a small engine ignition controller about a year and a half ago using an IGBT instead of transistor. In fact, it (GB14C40L) is specifically designed to drive ignition coils. The ballast resistor...
