Having a crankcase ‘align bored’ has nothing to do with the alignment of a flywheel housing pilot bore to a crankshaft centerline.

The clutch rod on my 83 D150 does not have that extension welded to it. And there are spring clips that keep the clutch rod on the z bar and clutch pedal nubs, Brewers may have them. They also sell the plastic bushings used to rebuild the Z bar.

Folks have put the long tail a833 transmissions in A bodies. There is some fabrication involved building a plate to get the shifter in the correct position and for under body clearance, but it has been done. Do a search here on FABO and / or the general internet as I remember seeing an article...

There are cranks that were drilled for the manual transmission pilot hole but not honed to size. It is possible to drive a pilot bushing into a non honed crank pilot bore, but being undersized that over compresses the bushing and it will not accept the transmission pilot shaft. That got me one time.

I did not say it would not work, especially in a light, low power vehicle. I did say I wonder if it is the best choice.

And do you really think the manufacturers are testing / certifying the new Dexron formulas to be the best in 50 year old manual transmissions? I think you know what I mean.

I have read that although the modem Dexron superseded the older versions the newer product is thinner in viscosity. Just one of the reasons the new product is Dexron IV and not Dexron II. All part of the mileage improvement game. I have no idea whether this would make a difference in an A833...

I called the shop, they said my flywheel will be ready for pickup today after 2:00 pm and that they use a grinding process.

Thanks, I did not know that. I honestly thought flywheels were turned on a lathe. I am working with a competent machine shop on getting that flywheel renewed, but I did not think to ask what process they use on flywheels. I will give them a call tomorrow.

Interesting comment on grinding vs turning a flywheel. I have always heard that a renewed flywheel is ‘turned’. When I think of grinding I think of finishing crankshaft mains and pins. So why would grinding a flywheel be preferred?

Late 80’s Dodge D150 had a hydraulic clutch, had an external slave cylinder that moved the throw out bearing arm. I saw one in a pull a part. I believe it was a 1987 or 1988 model.

Verify that the motor mount bolts, motor to bell housing to transmission bolts transmission mount bolts are all preset and tight.
