33’s and 2 piece axles were a mess in a buddy’s jeep

You could pull the front driveshaft out and put it in 4WD and drive it. That should lock the front end in. If you still have a vibration, it would likely be in the front axle. If not, the transfer case. If the vibration goes away, it’s in the front driveshaft.

What transfer case does this have?

Check the vacuum lines from the t-case to the front axle. I’ve had those vacuum cans rust out and/or lines crack and have had the fork not move all the way back. I used to put manual lock outs on my CAD axles for piece of mind!

Is the converter locking and unlocking?

Yes. I had the main shaft swapped in a BB 727 so I could run a married NP205 behind it. Pretty simple swap actually.

That’s going to depend on if the car is mini-tubbed, fully rubbed, or has stock wheel wells

Some did but I believe most were 30 spline. I recently sold a complete 60HD for $100. It was a 30 spline.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew the A518 used the same internals as a 727 and that there was never a 727 with an OD. I was always told the A500 was a 2WD A518. I guess I was told wrong!

Aren’t they just a 727 with OD? I would think you can toughen them up like a 727 and enjoy the OD for cruising

RE's cost more to rebuild around here versus A500's or 46RH's. Solenoids maybe versus the simplier 727 type parts? 545RFE's are even worse!

If it's pre 96, I believe it would've a 46rhor the 2wd equivalent. From what I have heard, it's the same as an A518 or basicallya 727 with OD. If post 96, it's a 46re, fully electronic and shifted by solenoid a.
