i had almost the same setup on my 340 (a little bigger cam) i changed from the LD340 to rpm air gap just like what you're thinking of doing. the difference is truly dramatic. if you are considering the swap, then do it, you won't be disappointed.

hey 7172 duster, i've seen you refer to using a stud girdle a couple of times and, since i've only seen them for B/RB blocks, was wondering if you found someone who makes/sells them or did you have to fab one yourself? -thanks

some folks on this thread are indicating that there's "no appreciable difference" in performance from the ld340 to the rpm air gap. i made this swap on my 340 (10.5 comp., mp .557 cam, 750 holley), and i can tell you the air gap made a HUGE difference. get it, you won't be disappointed. my 2 bits
