    Inexpensive paint, gun worth considering?

I painted the Dart with a purple HF gun. They work great and only cost like $15. When done, I just threw it away..lol. I actually bought 3 of them. I still have 1 left. I have a nicer gun but, in a pinch and for $15 I would use them again and then, throw them away. It costs more in chemicals to...

    Tucking factory 74 bumpers

I tucked the bumpers on my 75 Duster. I found a usable 73 front with brackets and had to drill one hole on each side to mount it. The rear I drilled a small hole in each shock (they are filled with oil) then, I put them in my press and collapsed them. Once they were fully collapsed I put a...

    Paint Quantity Question

With a mix ratio of 8:1:1 your paint is not going to go very far. I would get at least 2 1/2 gallons.

    B5 BLUE

    Paint Guys - PPG Shopline??

If your going white over a light primer it should cover well. The A-4 Dart in the above picture did not cover well at all. Using a super light color primer under white can also give you a false sense of coverage. I would recommend using a medium gray primer under it. I have used WW1 white in...

    Paint Guys - PPG Shopline??

I use the Shopline with good coverage. I use the base coat/clear coat but, no problems with coverage with the exception of the normal colors that don't cover well.

    Epoxy primer

You may think your shop is dry enough but, it's probably not. Also anytime you touch it with bare skin it will rust. Once you get it stripped I would go over the entire car with a DA and 180 grit to make sure any starting of flash rust is gone.

Repair or replace this fender (AMD)

The fender can be fixed but, unless your taking it to somebody who cares or not is going to depend on the type of repair you get. If your going to your local jokal body shop they sure as hell aren't drilling out spot welds and separating the headlight section from the fender then welding it back...

To paint or not to paint the underside

I agree they are over restored. The one good thing about my Challenger being painted on the bottom is that it should still be around in 100 years..lol. I recently looked at a 25,000 mile original 340 Duster and you would be surprised how unperfect they were. You could see the rasp marks in the...

No...wet sand the 2k primer with 400 then, seal it and then paint it.

1 part epoxy primer and more primer..

I always epoxy primer all panels. The money and time spent on body and paint I see no reason to skip this step.

1 part epoxy primer and more primer..

We will have to agree to disagree on that. On a side note I went to school for body and paint...Just sayin'.... If I had my car tore down that far...I would spend the few extra bucks to insure it is sealed up good with epoxy before I moved on.
  19. plymouth67

1 part epoxy primer and more primer..

Epoxy primer seals it. Regular 2k primer doesn't go over bare metal and bond to it well. Regular 2k primer actually will attract moisture and promote rusting from the inside out. Paint is really what protects your car from rusting but, epoxy will seal it up for a period of time to allow you to...

  21. plymouth67

1 part epoxy primer and more primer..

Yes but, how long after can it sit without being covered by a fill primer before you have to reapply epoxy? For example the PPG Shopline epoxy can't sit for more than 2 days if it sits any longer it needs to be reapplied.
  22. plymouth67

1 part epoxy primer and more primer..

Depending on the brand of epoxy primer you put on the bottom. Some epoxy primers need to be reapplied if they are not covered by a filler primer in a couple day window.

To paint or not to paint the underside

My Challenger is painted on the bottom. Looks nice and I feel it protect the bottom just as well as undercoating without all the mess. The draw back is, I drive my car as much as I can and you hear the rocks hit the bottom and, it gets dirty. Call me anal but I clean the bottom 1 or 2 times a...

I am Sooooo Confused over Paint

I agree that you don't mix products. Different manufacturers use different solvents in there products and, it can cause bad reactions such as lifting or crows feet. Epoxy first then, body work after that 3 heavy wet coats of 2K filler primer then, start blocking...priming....blocking...when you...

    Thoughts on this colour

B5 is a very tricky thing as they changed it soo much. With B5 its important to look at all years of it. The difference between 69 and 70 is pretty drastic. People can say they like B5 but, it really depends on the year of B5.

1970 dart swinger tail stripe, help needed

The one I put on from Phoenix graphics is "boomarang" across the trunk lid. If you were to paint it on you would do the same thing. The shape follows the shape of the rear of the trunk lid.
