4 piston brembos, Master cylinder, proportioning valve confusion.

I used to run the Gen 1 Viper Brembos and Cobra rear discs. I use the 15/16" master with no power assist. They worked perfectly. I recently upgraded to the wilwood 6 piston and changed nothing else. They work even better. No reason to have power assist. FYI. I now have the HDK kit and I used a...

Can you lock up your disc brakes?

I think this was the problem. For the record, I had just installed the big brakes on the front and had practically zero miles on them. Now I have some regular driving along with riding them to bed them in.

Can you lock up your disc brakes?

Update on this topic. I put some heat in the pads by riding the brakes and I was able to lock them up. This car stops incredibly well!

Can you lock up your disc brakes?

Hell if I know if it’s the best it can be. I’ll see how it does at the Holley Moparty speed stop challenge. Hopefully I won’t be known as a cone killer.

Can you lock up your disc brakes?

My car is build for handling with loads of Hotchkis parts, and large t-bars. Worn out parts aren't even part of this discussion. After about 8 hard stops to bed the new pads in, I was starting to feel a bit light headed. I'm sure if I had a passenger, they would have gotten nauseous. I think...

Can you lock up your disc brakes?

Curious if anyone with 4 wheel, manual disc brakes can lock up the tires under hard braking? I have 13.75" rotors with Brembo 4 pistons up front, mustang cobra discs in the back. 15/16" bore master cylinder, and adjustable prop valve. Although, the valve is completely open and not regulating any...

    Gen 1 Viper brakes reimagined

Finally getting around to finishing up this conversion on my car. I have some brake lines to finish up, so nothing to report yet on performance gains.

    Gen 1 Viper brakes reimagined

Haha! Completely understood. I've worked with machinists in the past. They have a different way of thinking when it comes to tolerances.

    Gen 1 Viper brakes reimagined

I'd say the hole locations are critical if you want a nice tight bolt fit up. I don't see why you couldn't do on a drill press if you were precise with your measuring/centerpunching, etc. Fortunately, the spread on the spindle and the caliper are a nice round number. 3-1/8" on the spindle, and...

    Gen 1 Viper brakes reimagined

The first thing I checked was the pad on the brake surface. It seemed to be fine. Since the offset was greater, and I had a 3/8" spacer between the bracket and the caliper already, I was excited to think this could go together with no spacers, or at least very thin spacers. I also wasn't sure...

    Gen 1 Viper brakes reimagined

I bought some Gen 1 Viper caliper years ago with intentions of using the Dr. Diff kit. I ended up putting the car back together with the FMJ 10.95" discs I had just to speed up getting the car back on the road. Now that the car is back together and has about 1500 miles of getting new build bugs...

Ditching the booster. What do I need??

You're going to want a master cylinder wtih a smaller bore. If you use the large bore master from the power braket setup, your pedal will be pretty stiff. The smaller bore is perfect for this. Dr. Diff sells a kit with a 15/16" bore. There are others that make that master cylinder too (mopar...
