A little more work today. Not having a full replacement qtr to work with, it's going on in 3 pieces. 3rd piece will be fabbed to take care of the lower front corner at the wheel well and meet the under side of the rocker.. We've also got some inner rocker to reconstruct, as you can see...

Glasses and gloves, as well. Taught both boys and even my little girl - no power tools without the PPE.

Got an action shot of Josh this evening. Initial cut down low so we could get the wheel lip and bottom edge removed in order to see where the final cut should end up.

We also turned Fred around and I started poking holes in his left side and started eyeballing how to go about the tail light corner.

No pics, but a little progress update. Josh stripped both doors. Left side is way solid. Right side has 3 pin holes in the lower front corner.

Saturday was ridiculously warm here. Josh wire wheeled and painted the carlisle k frame while I fabbed some more lower right qtr. Got an action shot he doesn't know I took (yet)

School was closed on Monday, so Josh and I did a few hours in the garage. Got the right side mostly fabbed up.

trunk gutter - done.

Another lunch hour in the garage today and the Left fender is roughed in. Tomorrow, I hope to get the trunk gutter almost done. After that, we'll roll it out so I can get the 03 Dakota in for the exhaust manifold leak and front of the engine oil leak taken care of. Sounds like an old farm...

A little lunch hour fun today. Cut out the old and test fit the new.

Nope. But I can tell you all I did was cut out a square to get to good metal and cut a matching square from the trunk lid off the brown turd. Flanged the edges of the patch and managed to get all 4 sides behind the opening.

A little more progress. Left side of the roof is done as much as the right side. Just needs finishing body smoothing. I am very pleased with the roof, as a whole. I might end up kicking myself for leaving every thing for the final bodywork til the end, but my thought process is get the big...

After thinking about it, the roof did come from the donor carcass that we call "the brown turd". So it is only appropriate that it was lumpy......:rolleyes:

Update from post #63.... Right side trunk gutter is pretty much done. So is the A pillar on the right side. Just some finishing body work to do on them. Saving all that til after all the big stuff is done.

Well, today we finally got around to finishing the floors we harvested out of the brown turd. Fred now has floors to hold our feet in. I think we'll finish the roof seams before cutting into the quarters.

Got the right side trunk gutter cut out and the initial cut for the patch from the brown turd.

No real big progress on Fred with vacations and life in general going on. However, we finished harvesting the floors out of the brown turd and picked up a running rebuildable 904 from a 318 Duster this past weekend. At Carlisle we brought home a 340 k frame, an Offy 4 barrel intake, FMJ...

So one tube surprised me. I was able to do the "skim" coat on all 4 sides/edges of both the receiving and new roof edges and do the 1/4 bead all the way around all 4 sides. I'm starting to think when we finally get to the quarters, this just may be the way to go.

Bonded Fred's new scalp in place this afternoon. Says 4 hrs to cure in 70* Temps. And 72 hours to full strength. We're still in the 50s and 60s at night, so I'll leave it clamped and screwed down until Monday.

Josh sent me these pics at work today. He was off school today and stripped the lower front fenders to see how bad they really are. Not to bad, I'd say... I'll show him where I want to cut them out and then we'll make our own patches.

Got the old gutters zipped off. Made the final 3 test fits and trims done. Prepped the underside of the new scalp and the original structure. Test fit it again. I'm liking it. Won't have time to bond it in place tomorrow or Wednesday. Hoping for Thursday when Josh gets home from school.

Well, I am feeling much better about my learning curve and Fred's new roof. I spent the last couple of day's lunch hour removing the structure from the donor roof off of the brown turd. I managed to get all of the old structure removed, while leaving the rain gutters attached. Looking at...

Might be putting the cart before the horse a little... Josh has a vision for the car and found a set 4 of these on marketplace for $200. The tires are better than 3/4 tread and will be sold off eventually, as that part will not be right for the car. Although two of them turn letters in could...

Well , we decapitated the brown turd this evening. We now have a convertible Duster shell. LOL Now we have to remove the structure from the skin, as opposed to removing the skin from the structure.

Hope to cut the roof off of the brown turd donor carcass tomorrow afternoon/evening. Plan to cut clean thru the pillars and then remove the structure from the skin. Looks like that last part will be somewhat of a pain, but should keep the skin edges in tact for reattachment to Fred.

Maybe $100. Won't be much more than a pick up truck load, if that.
