I believe Indy was bought out, so I heard, and the new owners are trying really hard to rebuild there image.

Well, another minor update, and a possible clue as to it's short life on the drag strip. After a thorough thermal clean and blast on the heads, we discovered a chamber that had been previously damaged, and someone attempted to weld it. Unfortunately, it leaks like a garden sprinkler...

I told him we could leave the liberty pro shifted 4 speed in there, and he could experience wot, 7500 rpm HEMI-foot to the floor upshifts, and it would change his life outlook!!!

For everyone following along waiting for an update, parts are trickling in, and got the block completely stripped and cleaned. She looks as near to fresh from '66 as you can get!

The mechanical pump was in use. No regulator or anything, so the rear pumps were either used previously, or perhaps as "booster" pumps. Zero evidence of any alcohol or nitro usage.

Dont remember the width, @Maxcustody has that in his notes. It's a car dana, not a truck. The front hanger had the inside flange cut off, moved over about a 1/2" and a hole drilled through the frame rail for the bolt. Then welded solid. The factory torque boxes were cut out and not replaced...

It has a 63 casting date, and definitely appears to be aluminum.

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

I think the car started out with a 66 street hemi, with a few bits of REAL race parts, probably second hand. The crossram and carburetors are legit 64 superstock parts, the pistons, rods, magneto, oiling system stuff are all legit period race parts. My opinion is the car began to morph from a 68...

Zero chance of using that crankshaft, it is JUNK. Using a crank that someone grooved the mains is a bit crazy, and zero chance of leaving the torsion bar crossmember cut out and twisting the floor also. The spirit of the car will remain, but it will be built to be drivable, and safe.

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

We allready talked about that, I would personally rather have discs, but the 73 up stuff moves the wheel out a bit, and I dislike that. So I'm not sure what his plans will be in that respect

No idea on the cam specs

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

Crower solid flat tappet, but was setup with a gear drive, with a thrust bearing behind the cam gear, and a thrust button in front. Unfortunately, it looks like they set the cam up to center the lobes under the lifters, which is also a no-no, and it had basically no lifter rotation. Allready had...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

I hear ya there, but that crank looks like ****, who ever did the ballance job must have started at that shop the day before, lol. And someone cut the mains on a lathe, putting a groove around the journal that mirrors the bearing groove. Stress fracture city, not a wise move. Check out the all...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

The car does need a few things corrected, the builder installed a 70 up "B and E" body 18 spline transmission, and cut the torsion bar crossmember out for room, and did not weld and reinforcement back in, so the plan is go back to a correct A body length 18 spline "hemi" transmission, and...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

My opinion is that the car is just as incredible as we all thought! Very much a "day 2" hot rod that a guy would have built in that time period, not "correct" as far a super stock type build, but built with what he could acquire.
  28. replicaracer43

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

The car has a leaf spring/ladder bar setup, somewhat primitive, and possibly home built, but very well constructed for the time period. It also was mounted with elephant ears, the motor mounts have been cut off the factory 340 K frame. There is evidence that it had a K frame mount at some point...
