    Pop pop on exhaust side

I had a spark plug wire that would occasionally get partially burned through. Started popping randomly as well. New plug wire and problem was fixed. Sometimes it is the easy stuff that causes problems.

I have an aftermarket air cleaner, but they usually have a knockout on the base. Presently doing body work so the car hasn't moved in a bit.

    Distributor filling itself with oil

Never said it was right, however, it does look like I was wrong. Trying to remember if I have a breather in my stash of parts...

    Distributor filling itself with oil

Maybe not, I don't run a breather on my 408, just a PCV valve.

    Distributor filling itself with oil

You could run a breather on the other valve cover and see if the oil issue stops, if so, positive crank pressure would be culprit.

    EQ heads-valve cover choice

I have MT valve covers on my EQ heads and yes, the gaskets didn't line up well as identified in the picture above. I went ahead and used them anyway and they have not leaked so far.

Remove Locating Pin from Bell Housing?

You can also drill a hole in the dowel and tap it with a 1/4 20 tap. You can insert a stud and use a socket over the dowel to allow a nut to slowly pull the dowel out into the socket.

Whats the best way to get this fitting off

I had to take an open hack saw blade and carefully cut a slit in the pipe. When it gets really close to getting all the way through, you can squish it with a pair of pliers and it will come out easily. Oh yeah, penetrating oil doesn't hurt. You can speed up the process by using a cut off wheel...

    Usable power for the street?

When I was lazy in my 69 440+6 with 3.55 gears and a four speed, I would driver around town taking off in second gear so I wouldn't have to shift as much. Didn't even whimper.

    318 starts then dies

I have seen where you can get 12 volts at a terminal but the current carrying capacity does not allow the device to work. Try doing a jumper wire from the coil directly to the battery and see if it continues to run. You could have a bad connection or even the ignition switch itself.
