505 BB Mopar on the dyno today

I don't think it would run very well on a half cam, only four cylinders working, not good.

    273 to 383 Formula S Barracuda

I would lean toward the originality of the 273, especially if it is the original engine.

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

Besides, a big block is an easy bolt in. I don’t know why people think it is tough.

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

When you own an original big block four speed car like my 69 383-s, you don't put in a small block. I already had the 440+6 from another car, so it was an easy decision. The car was fun in a straight line. Would have been a better car overall with a good running 340.

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

Back to you don't know squat. I never said I ran the stock manifolds, just that the Schumachers are better than the stock manifolds. I will repeat, it is always not about horsepower with a street car, which most of us have.

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

Maybe we all should be running nitro on the street, because as we all know, it is only about the horsepower!

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

You don’t know **** about me. I was the 11th person in the country to purchase 2” CPPA headers in my 69 383-s. And when Roland Osborne told me he was unaware of anyone using them with a four speed as they were made for automatic trans only, I may have been the first in the country to make them...

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

And I guarantee Schumachers make more power than the big block a-body manifolds I could have used. But the tri-y headers were easier to install than the 2” CPPA headers I had on, maintenance was much easier, don’t hang down and catch speed bumps, stock z bar worked, and performance was great on...

Dumbest response I have heard yet

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

Sometimes, it isn't all about making horsepower... I had them on my 440+6 that made respectable power and I loved them.

    Schumacher tri-y headers

I welded up my own exhaust from a universal kit, so using their connector pipes was not needed.

Big block Dart hood clearance question

It gave clearance for the pitman arm not to hit my header.

Big block Dart hood clearance question

I ran a stock 440+6 in my 69 Barracuda with the engine raised 1/4 inch from stock with no issues. For short periods of time, I had a four barrel with a Performer intake with no issues either.

    440 69 Barracuda

Schumacher tri-y’s are a nice compromise between a full length header and exhaust manifolds.

    Spinning intake bolt

I prefer a threaded insert over a Heli Coil. If you have the room to drill out a little bigger, I just think they look stronger. Alfa Tools 9/16-12 NC SOLID THREAD INSERT, SI67510

Schumacher headers 440 in 71 Duster

My Schumacher's for my 440 in my manual steering 69 Barracuda slipped in with the engine in the stock location, piece of cake.

    Schumacher tri-y headers

I welded up my own exhaust from a kit, just had to make minor adjustments, par for the course.
  19. rklein383

    Schumacher tri-y headers

Here is what I did, just needed to straighten out the collector end a bit to run parallel to the torsion bar, so simple, I don't understand why Schumacher doesn't incorporate it into their design. My little angle insert was almost too long, If i was to do it again, I would shorten it a half inch...

    Schumacher tri-y headers

You will need to alter the headers if running a stock manual transmission set up.

which intakes fit under a 1969 Barracuda hood with a 440?

A stock six-barrel setup will fit under a stock hood!

Can I use B or C body manifolds fore better flow on my sleeper GTS?

I put a set of tri-y schumacher headers on my 440+6. I think they are a good compromise between a full length header and cast iron manifolds.

A little progress on my son's Dart

Maybe someday I will try putting an engine in from the bottom. Although the dozens of times I have done it from the top, I had no problems. Although the 2" CPPA headers on my 440 were a major pain. Rod

    440 Six Pack Carburetor Question

Try Holley, they sell a lot of parts. I have bought base plates and float bowls for my six pack, although it was a number of years ago.

    440 swap

Big block mopars do have some major advantages to the small block on ease of working on. 1) distributor in the front 2) oil pump can be changed without removing the pan 3) no coolant passages in the intake 4) oil pan is completely flat 5) oil filter in front. Only real minus in my eyes is spark...

    440 swap

Spark plug access on the passenger side is difficult for sure, but I was able to do it without access holes even with 2" CPPA under chassis headers.

    440 swap

Not a great picture, but here is the 383 mount on my 440+6 I had in my 69 383-s fastback. My 440 had the cast in bosses which allowed me to drill and tap to install a 383 mount on my 440. Unfortunately, not all RBs had the bosses.

    440 swap

Which K frame are you using for the swap? This is on Ebay right now... Mopar Big Block A Body Motor Mount | eBay. This is a pretty good price by the way. This is a 383 mount, but if your 440 has the bosses on the front of the block like my 69 block did, it will bolt right on once you drill and...
