    Adding a Fan Shroud

A quick update on the cooling situation. This week I installed my new CVF V-belt pulleys along with going back and trying the 17" fan. I also went back to the 180* thermostat. It was a lot of changes at one time and the 17" fan hit the top of the inside of the shroud. So i cut a section of the...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

I finally got the shroud mounted up and it fits great to the radiator. I dont have any pics yet but will post some on Monday night once I get back home. Its totally sealed with black foam that you would use to mount a camper top to the rear of your truck. A few questions about theory for...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

Matt, yes my radiator is an engineer cooling product. The problem I'm going to have is that the mounting that was on the radiator is just slightly inside the shroud now and I dont want to narrow the shroud. I'm just going to add some type of bracketry as you said using the aluminum I cut out...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

I've got the shroud cut to fit the fan and I split it in half to make a top and bottom. Made brackets to tie it all back together and now I'll need to figure out I'm going to mount it to the radiator. I have a pulley kit coming next week to overdrive the water pump faster and hoping the lower...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

Famous Bob, yes it is a summit fan shroud. Looks like it should work ok, Moparmat2000, it's obvious you have much more talent then I have!! That's a superb looking shroud! Is there a tread you did to instruct us on how to do it? As for the 15" fan, it covers all of the up and down core and 80%...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

DesertRat Did you have heating issues before you made your shroud or did you build a shroud right away and dont know how it ran without it? If it was after you had cooling issues how much difference in temps did the shroud make? Does your temps fluctuate when your in traffic now with the shroud...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

Im working on my 66 Dart with a 408. Still trying to get a better driving temp to keep car cool in all conditions so Im adding a shroud around the mechanical 15" steel fan I am now using. The shroud I bought is 2.5" deep. I will need to make some mounting brackets on the sides since it came with...

My kit will be coming from CVF racing. I bought the serpentine kit originally and my fan would hit their lower pulley so I contacted them and they will exchange the serpentine pulleys for v-belt pulleys which would save me 1". Now I just have to hope that the 1" will be enough to use their...

The answer is yes the pulleys have been measured and has been posted earlier. Yes they are the same diameter so it is driving at a 1:1 ratio. I bought a dress up kit that will have a 6" lower and a 5" water pump pulley that will drive the pump a little faster but that will be a few weeks away. Rod

Thanks for reminding me to follow up with this thread, I replaced the radiator with a 2-1" core radiator. That made no difference in the temps and in the meantime my fan blades from summit arrived. I had ordered 2 different ones, an 18" 6 blade and a 17" 6 blade steel blades. The 18" was to big...

Thanks 4spdragtop, The shroud looks very shallow. I have not found one yet but i am looking. My new radiator arrived while I was away this weekend and the fan blades I ordered from summit. Im hoping to get the stuff on the car thursday night if all works out ok. I will let you know how this...

4spdragtop, would you happen to have any pics of your fan and then how it sits close wise to your radiator? I would like to find another fan but would like to see one first. Is your 7 blade an original to your 67. If so what else did they come on from the factory so I can start searching for...

Inertia, I would agree with you 100%. The problem with that is that I was just pulling out from a stop sign and probably never went over 3K. I had already pulled out at least 8 -10 times on my drive without issue and each time I pulled out I would go thru the gears and would probably run to...

Plumkrazee70, I only have 2.5 inches to radiator from the water pump about. I had about .75 clearance with that flex fan and I was only using it as a trial. Was going to go with a steel fan but didnt get that chance. I dont understand why that blade bent like it did. I went back to the...

Well off for a test ride tonight. A great night for a drive, temp around 75*. Off I go, first stop was to put some fuel in since I dont have the gauge hooked up yet. Its only about 1/4 mile to fuel stop. Leave there and head into town. Drive a quick loop around and out on the road I go. Temps...

OK heres the update and what has fixed the overheating issue I had. I have removed the electric fans and shroud. I bought a 1/2" fan spacer from summit and installed a 15" flex fan. I put back in the standard 180* thermostat. I started the car tonight and let it sit and idle for 45 minutes...

That's the reason I am going to a flex fan and going to drive it that way and see where i am at. Reading back on my last drive it went up to 210 at times while driving. Would cool down some if going faster but not low enough to where it should run. I'm really hoping that the flex fan cools it. Rod

No my cooler is mounted by brackets and bolted ain place. It's a very solid install. My first thing at this point is to see If this engine will run cool with the flex fan. If it does not then I'm going to have to tear the heads off and find what is causing this. If it does cool down then I move...

Ouch J Par that hurts, but I can handle it! lol I gave up on manuals long ago after I figured out they were more work then i needed to do. AJ/FORMS, I removed the radiator tonight and did your flow test. It took 45 seconds from the time I actually started dumping the gallon in until it had...

J par, If your going to go to a push fan maybe you want to keep your 2 smaller pull fans. It's a thought that I have considered. I would need to move my trans cooler before I could go to a large pusher on outside of radiator. Just a thought! Let me know if you go that way. Rod

Moparofficial, I appreciate the recommendation in trying to solve the over heating problem I have, however as I have stated many times in this thread I have only 2.5" of clearance between the pump and radiator. You are recommending a fan that is 4.5" thick (according to the summit specs sheet)...

J par, you posted that once you removed your shroud you do not over heat. Is that sitting still in traffic as well as moving? Johnny Dart. On post #90 if you go back and read you will see I plan on trying a mechanical fan if there is clearance. Also this car never had a 7 blade fan, the stock...

Well, truth be told, I didnt want to lose HP and not that it mattered because I will have more then I'm ever going to need as well. But let's face it, electric fans work given you can put on a correct shroud and the fan can draw across the whole radiator. They also look very clean when in place...
