    LD4B Intake question

I just drilled and tapped the intake manifold. This is a bad picture of it, but you can see it under the top radiator hose, dark blue fitting. LD340 intake

Low speed torque and driveability ?

My neighbor ran his truck on a chassis dyno, the print out gave to him said this. Torque 650.62 ft/lbs HP 702.63 Crank hp 872.79 So this is the first chassis dyno print out I have seen, just contradicted everything you said.

    very mild 360 build.

If you have not bought a balancer yet, I have had good luck with these and the SFI ones. The nice thing is the factory pulleys align right up, unlike some balancers. Professional Products 80012 Professional Products PowerForce Harmonic Dampers | Summit Racing

    Used two gaskets on mine.

Tear into it, or bolt in and go???

That is ultra high compression for a 318, I am not even sure which pistons to use to get it that high.

Tear into it, or bolt in and go???

I would try a different compression gauge.

school me on a 5.9 magnum motor.

I built a 5.9 with Edelbrock heads, and a 340 with X heads about the same time. I broke both of them in on my engine start stand, using the same headers (generic steering thru the headers car style). Using the same name brand header gaskets, with no leaks. I then had a change of plans and put...

    3.910 + a few lines

You are over-thinking this, you are just using it for a grocery getter, clean the pistons up real good, check the crank tolerances and put it together.

    Starter Removal

Sometimes its the simple things. Check the teething ring on the torque converter, it looks a little chewed up.

A pic of my Duster, I have since changed the air-cleaner, to a factory 1970 one, soon to ditch the aluminum radiator for a stock one, with shroud.

    Basic 318 Mods

X2 I worked years ago for a guy that had a body shop, he had alot of nice antique cars and hot-rods. He always said it was cheaper to buy a done car.

    GM Alternators

You can buy the 1 wire set up in a Mopar case, I have one on my Duster.

I hope it is what you expect. When buying an old car I always tell my-self: Expect the worst, hope for the best.

    Basic 318 Mods

Drive it and see what the car needs first, it will need something. And do not buy any performance parts that cannot be used for larger engine upgrade.

    SB vs BB who wins?

My buddy has a 5.3 junkyard engine with a turbo on it, its been together for several years, nothing fancy, 698 hp at the rear tires. Its in a truck, he pulled out of the junkyard, he fixed up the truck, he painted it, has less than 9K in the entire truck. A lot of time, but not a lot of money...

Is building a stroked 318 better than a stroked 340/360?

X2 I have a fresh teen machine shop fresh, with some goodies 2.02 J heads, small cam, its a sacrificial lamb on my 6-71 build, find out what it will not take and then stick a really good forged engine under the 6-71.

    Cylinder wall weld??

I think it would stay together as is with iron heads, but with aluminum it may be sketchy. The aluminum heads or going to expand more, but you would not be using the steel head gaskets...... You could just put it back together and run it.
  26. sireland67

    Cylinder wall weld??

Its as shame you are not in the states, I would give you a bare 318 block.

Ultra Gray or Ultra Black RTV

Nothing leaks with Right Stuff, but it takes an air-chisel to take it apart. I just use the Black RTV, it seals, and will come back apart fairly easy.

New to 340 so I have questions

    Hotwire a 318

Pretty easy really, I used an HEI box and a single wire alternator.
