    451 overheating, even when moving

If it were mine, I would get a factory-style copper/brass radiator, with a factory style shroud, factory AC style fan. Problem would be solved.

    Original Radiators

I have a co-worker whose dad has a radiator shop, he does an excellent job, sometimes I take him one it needs re-cored, some just need a good cleaning. He is honest, and does not do no more than what is needed to repair.

to use a hood or not?

I had a 78 vette, all stock and it would run really warm, like almost overheating warm. I added a roots supercharger and cut a hole in the hood. The engine temps dropped at least 40 degrees. I guess the hole in the hood was acting as a draw for the radiator, and a heat release.

I have never had any luck with the 0-ring ones, ended up using gasket on them.

    AC guinea pig...

I would throw some duck tape over the holes, I know about heat, just the little top plate is missing off my shifter boot, and the heat coming up from there is intense.

    AC guinea pig...

Hook it to a daily driver, it will vacuum it down. Save you from buying a vacuum pump.

    AC guinea pig...

No but you will get around 20 in/hg. You really just need to get the air out of the system.

    AC guinea pig...

Remember, an engine is a vacuum pump, a piece of vacuum hose, connected to the system, hooked to a daily driver, will suck the system down.

    AC guinea pig...

Feel lucky you are only in the 70's, it has been 95 here for the last few weeks, along with 50-60% humidity, its like a sauna here in the mountains. It is hardly ever this hot here.

Any idea how thick the timing cover is behind the water pump?

Those AMC timing covers were not a great design, plus it was also the housing for the oil pump, so the steel gears would tear the housing up, sending aluminum thru the engine.

3/8s NPT thermostat connection points - fan relay & water temp gauge

One thing on the spacer I found out, just use a regular gasket on each side and ditch the o-rings, I could not get the o-rings to seal.

3/8s NPT thermostat connection points - fan relay & water temp gauge

Well I have just drilled and tapped the intake on my LD340 on my duster, I found that thermostat spacer after I already drilled and tapped the intake. I used the spacer on a LD4B on my old truck and it worked fine. I also drilled and opened up a port on a mag M1 duel plane I had. The spacer is...

    Small block radiator & shroud

I may hit you up on a different set up for my car, I stupid gave my original away to a guy that was doing a slant to V8 conversion. He bought the engine off me so I thru the radiator in for free.

    Small block radiator & shroud

If you have not bought the new radiator yet, I would get the original re-done by a radiator shop. I replaced my factory one in my Duster, when I damaged it, the Champion does not cool as good as good as the old factory one.
