What distributors are you 440 guys running with a stock hood clearance?

X2 on halifaxhops, he did a RB distributor for me and it was spot on, worked great. And the price was very reasonable.

    Unusual Hemi Timing Setting....

I always give the engine what it wants, not what is wrote down in any shop manual.

So any good cam and lifters out there?

Lunati is the only manufacture that I have had issues with. Broke the engine in on my engine run stand, everything was fine. Installed it in my car, upon start-up instant peck-peck-peck, shut it down fast. Lifter plunger was stuck all the way down, bent push-rod and pushed it thru the rocker...

    Frozen Block

Feed-grade molassas and water, soak it, it will come loose. A complete dip in a barrel is the best way, plus feed-grade molassas is cheap.

Big block Trouble in little China

10.5 or 11 is the diameter of the flywheel. At this point you could count the teeth on the flywheel 130 vs 143 or slide the trans back and look at the numbers on bellhousing.

440 what am I missing here?

Sorry not much help, but I would really like to se a pic of the big block under the hood. I have a 46 dodge truck, that I bought a few months ago, and the previous owner said he could not get the flat six running. I have not tried to get it running yet, but I do have a bunch of big blocks...

Can a 400BBM w/cheap aluminum heads compete/dominate against the street LS?

My LS experience is hauling LS engines from the junkyard for my co-worker. He has a AMC Spirit, with a completly stock 5.3 except it has a set of headers, aluminum intake and a holley carb, th350 trans, and a early bronco 9" all junkyard parts, but he did rebuild the trans himself and add a 3500...

    Bare Bones Budget 400 Build

So true, I picked up a running 400 yesterday for $300, I have no idea yet, which car I will put it in, but it was cheap enough. Its in my outbuilding now, so dry and safe for a long time.

    Bare Bones Budget 400 Build

Not sure what the bearing retainer is, I have not bought the trans yet off my buddy, I may go up and get it tomorrow. Its an old goofy ball and trunion, but I have a good driveshaft.

    Bare Bones Budget 400 Build

Hey when you take the slant out of your car, I could use the bell and flywheel, if a 4-speed will bolt to it.

    Bare Bones Budget 400 Build

I just bought one for $300 but its going in my Challenger. Brewers does sell a repo big block bell, that is reasonable. Trust me they are hard to find, plus most originals have stripped holes, etc.

Keep hearing about frame twist with 440s

You should also consider repairing the floors correctly, they are also a structural part of the car.

    440 Clutch Recommendation.

I used a RAM HDX clutch kit in my last truck, the pedal was moderately stiffer, than the old wore out stock clutch, but not hard at all to push, my wife actually drove the truck more than me. It is a borg n beck design, so it bolts right in.

What's wrong with just a hone and new bearings?

Bent connecting rod, sounds like you have a parts motor.
  22. sireland67

What's wrong with just a hone and new bearings?

Determine what stopped the engine from turning, and go from there, if it oil starved, then at minimum it will need cam bearings, and a crank polish.

    Target compression ratio A/J

NP435 trans. The very first time my wife drove my truck, she moved furniture for a friend of hers, when the wife came home she said "it did not take me very long to figure out 1st gear was useless". I never asked how high she revved the old truck, but it started blowing some blue smoke after...

    Maximum Compression Ratio

The amount of mechanical advance in the distributor can make or break any combo. I am running 10.81 static in a small block with aluminum heads, I tuned it to run on 93 octane. Intake closing will make a difference in psi and dynamic compression.

    N-96 Ramcharger

That duster looks sweet, but to me it looks like the whole center of the hood was raised about a inch or so.

    Tell me about the 413

If they are $150 each, buy them both. I sold my last 413 for $500 10 years ago, when my buddy, rebuilt it he said pistons were really expensive, but the engine was in good shape. He got killed in a bike wreck, his dad finished the truck.
