If you want the system to last a vacuum pump is mandatory. You shouldn't just ad freon to an empty system. Air is non condensable and contains water vapor. The extra volume of the air will mess with the pressures, and the water will turn to acid when mixed with r12. Don't forget to check the oil...

Good question. In my experiance all of the new long life coolant is a bunch of BS. If you don't get the mix just right it's worthless. If it gets exposed to air for too long it's worthless. If you mix with even a small amount of some other kind of coolant, worthless again.

That's a pretty good drop for 134a. If you want it better than that you may have to go find you some r12.

Which way does the advance go?

Just get a good hose and you won't need the spring.
