Help on mufflers vs glass packs

For least flow resistance, back pressure and performance, glass packs are the way to go. These days there are some good glass packs like the Ultra Flos that are no louder than Flowmaster 40s etc.

    Dynomax mufflers

I believe you can get them offset on both ends, one end or just straight through. Mine are offset on both ends but I remember seeing the other types when I was shopping. I put Ultraflos on mine after researching back pressures. They are one of the lowest back pressure street muffler out there.

Glass pack, flow master super 40s, hooker aero

If you are after sound then Flowmasters make some great noise. If you want actual performance improvement go with some straight through glass packs..

    panty vac

I've run one on my street car for years. Here's the jest of it. They work best with open headers.... They do work with an exhaust system but efficiency (and check valve life) are reduced the more restrictive the system gets. The more "free flowing" your system is the better they will work - and...

    Best header material?

Personally I like the discoloration that takes place with SS. I would go SS if it were me.

    Muffler question

Flowmasters are "tinny" sounding by nature, especially as your motor air flow increases. They are also not the best flowing (high back pressure) since they are baffled. Personally i think that any straight through glass pack has a better sound and they all have less back pressures than Flowmasters.

    Recognize these BB headers?

Mine came with the car when I first bought it. They fit right in fine - albeit a bit tight at spots. Obviously holes need to be made at the inner fender wells and I had to flatten the underside of the #7 tube to keep it from rubbing on the steering shaft. I've had motor plates from day one so...

    Recognize these BB headers?

The rear most cylinders (7&8) on mine go through the fender well (like the OP's headers) and wrap the frame. Since mine are also stepped I am guessing they might be the Jack Davis variety? (Sorry to hijack the thread here Badart but I've been wondering what brand mine were for some time too :))..

    Recognize these BB headers?

Yup, you're right, I didn't catch that. The other three look very similar but that front is definitely routed different. The OP's also look a bit smaller in OD? They still look very similar - maybe the same brand just a different set up.

    Recognize these BB headers?

Looks like these ? I run these on my 62 Plymouth. The big loop exits the fender well and wraps the "frame" coming back in to the collector. Three piece on each side, with the two center cylinders together and the end cylinders individual. Mine are 2.25" at the head and drop to 2.125". These...

    dynomax vs. dynomax ...

I installed Ultraflows on my car this past year to replace some Flowmaster 50s. I made the change primarily because the Ultraflows have far less backpressure than the Flowmasters and are actually a bit less raspy / harsh sounding. I like the more mellow tone and the decreased back pressure is...

    Quiet mufflers

Most quiet and least restrictive is really not doable. I just replaced my Flowmaster 50s with Dynomax Ultraflow, primarily to reduce the backpressure but also hoping to reduce the noise. They did both. Flowmasters are made to be noisey! The 40 series are louder than the 50 series but they are...
