Is my engine performing as it should??

He said he's got "fully ported j-heads" ( do they flow 220 or 250 @.450 lift ?). Mis-matched stuff/expectations. Torquey cam, small carb, dual-plane, high-ish ratio gears, stock converter, and drives on the highway daily, and then ya throw in the "stiff springs"(?) on the "fully ported " heads...

Is my engine performing as it should??

"once you get the cam changed or spring changed... you will be fighting the stock converter and 3.23 gears...." I agree. 3.91's ( or even 3.55's)with converter will make a big the difference.

Is my engine performing as it should??

Sounds like you have a lot of good parts but may need a little more cam. I'd switch to something with a bit more duration and lift to help the motor pull stronger up top. Something like the Comp 20-224-4 Extreme Energy XE274H would work well with a 2400 stall converter. Use the springs Comp...

    Which intake do I use?

Check out the Comp XE High Lift series. ( like the XE275HL) . They have a lobe profile designed for the .904 mopar lifter that is the latest technology. Never hurts to call the cam manufacturer's 800 number tech line and give them all the specs on your car i.e. weight, tranny type, gear...

    Which intake do I use?

On the subject of a cam, you might want to make certain that you have a cam that would maximize power in the RPM range you desire. The proper cam would have alot more impact on low-midrange torque than the difference between those two intakes and whether or not you have a spacer( which in...

    Build me a Small block

Question is how long do you want your 500 HP to last? Stock rebuilt 360 with good pistons (Hypers will do for now), nothin' fancy cam cam ( like Comp XE285XL),fresh j heads, used intake of some sort ($75 Torker) and $500 Nitrous kit (NOS or Zex or whoever)will get you there for cheap but who...

    Traction issues

Basic weight transfer (redistribute weight to the rear, and suspension mods like shocks and torsion bars), stickier tires, and a traction device. Best Single mod would be Huge Fat Sticky Drag Radial Tires.( Or put the slant six back in it!)

    tuning help needed

That intake is same as an MP dual plane. Good piece on that car. Pro-Comp has a new ready-to-run tuneable distributor for about $90. Plenty of them on ebay, looks like a good deal if that one you have is junk. That car will run strong when the timing gets right! Good Luck

    tuning help needed

I'm glad to see you just rebuilt the carb and checked the timing. No need to re-invent the wheel here. The parts are old-school but but not terribly mis-matched. Cam is a little too big though.Good Luck

Hmm what to do! New crank or Stroker?

Thanks 340sFastback. I'm glad I went with the forged slugs. I wonder how many guys with the cast stroker kits will be regretting thier choice! I don't plan on cranking it up past 6500 too often. Good thing there's gonna be an auto trans behind it (no missed shifts!) What parts are in your 414?

Hmm what to do! New crank or Stroker?

Glad you solved your crank dilemma. In case anyone is interested, I decided to go the stroker route. Eagle cast 4.0" stroke $259(+$30shipping) CNC Motorsports, Probe Forged Pistons $479(+$24)CNC Motorsports, Some Type of Chinese H-Beams $279(+$24 Shipping) CNC Motorsports Total Seal Rings $75...

318 build. what would you do?

 Well there you have it! This may prove that kids really aren't listening to what ya try and tell'em! And that I really am guilty of not paying attention. But anyway....gears, yeah, gears that's the ticket!

318 build. what would you do?

I agree w/ Moper with the addition of some #302 heads with a bigger valve. You can do it cheap and that address' (to some degree anyway)the bane of the 318's existence- compression. Mill'em, skinny gasket, etc. Without doing pistons (which is what a 318 really needs ).Then that cam will work much...
