did you check pinion run out / I have seen the yoke end bent , a sign is a leaking pinion seal . when I ran the sure grip the car would go deeper into the corner but got a little loose coming out with power transferring back between the left/right wheels, tried changing the stagger but no help...

I usually tighten bearing until tight but you can still turn the tire easily/then back off until there is play about .003 play then tighten nut 1/4 turn and lock it / never had a problem and I've done thousands this way .

sounds like its set up too tight or the pinion bearing is loose taking out the gear clearance causing them to lock up

you need to find out or figure out what camshaft is in your engine a compression test from a cylinder might help figure it out if your compression is 10.5 to 1

you don't say what your idle speed is in gear, just that it drops 300 rpms do you have a tach in it?

in the 80's the standard gear for 1/2 and light 3/4 ton pick ups and vans was the 8 1/4" gear

my 73 duster with a 225/ has a 2.40 rear gear 7.25" with a 904 auto. and its not bad off the line.

you will need to weld plates over the spring seats and drill new holes for the spring center pins the f bodys use rubber insulators around the springs mounts, and the spring seats are wider as is the drum to drum measurement, so might need to cut off the spring mount and move them closer.

when you let it sit the torque converter will drain down raisin the fluid level when this happens its usually the gear selector shaft seal , this one wont leak when the car is running or only sitting a day or two. and if I remember right the valve body needs to be removed to get it out unless...

you might want to check for rusted up wheel cylinders that don't return or brakes adjusted too tight and dragging shoes .take a temp gun and shoot all the wheels and see if one is hotter then the outhers

is the rpm limited in all 3 gears or just 3 rd

how did you figure the 3.07 gear I don't think they go any lower then 3.55.most dana 70 are 4.10 automatic trans ,3.73 with low first gear with a 16/17 inch tire
