    Gas mileage 225 Slant 6

It should get 17 -20 depending on how you drive it and how much ethanol there is in the fuel. The more ethanol the lower your gas mileage will be.

    Slant Six age and size?

Well, that depends on what you are working on .A 77 has small spark plugs and a cast crank a 72 is forged and it is more similar to an early motor in looks. For someone restoring say a 65 slant six car these things are major issues . Not everyone is building a hot rod where this stuff doesn't matter.

/6 motor mounts, how to change?

What I usually do is lift it from the top with my engine crane but I have also used a piece of 2x8 cut about 8" square and put it on the floor jack under the oil pan.DO NOT JACK DIRECTLY ON THE PAN WITHOUT A GOOD THICK PIECE OF WOOD . You don't have to raise it all that much to do the job . Done...

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

The last one sure does ! Is that your old motor or the 66? Now that it's clean how does the bushing feel as you try to put it in? Clean up the hole real good with light sand paper ,oil it lightly and try to gently knock it in with a block of wood .Don't hit the bushing directly with a tool like...

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

I just looked close at the last photo and it looks like there is a bushing already in place.Look at the outside diameter of the hole and you will notice a circle about a 16th round that goes around the hole. That looks like the thickness of a bushing.Clean it all up and see if that is bronze

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

You can get these small hones on line . Just measure the OD of the bushing and get one that size or very slightly largerhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DB89S6A/?tag=fabo03-20

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

You have to clean up that rust.Nothing is going in with all that rust . A wooden dowel with some 120 grit paper then some scotch bright pad work should do it .The bushing is an interference fit so yes you have to tap it in . I usually use an old input shaft to do this. It needs to be snug in...

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

Every early slant I ever pulled had a factory installed pilot bushing in it. So before you start looking to get one why don't you remove the automatic trans flex plate and have a good look at the end of the crank.Take a close up photo of the back of the crank and post it. Lets see what you...

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

If it is a 66 engine why is it blue? Blue factory paint started in 70 .Just because it came out of a 66 doesn't make it a 66 motor.Check the code on the pad on the deck just under the head behind where the coil bolts to the motor. If it's a 66 it will have the letter B stamped at the beginning of...

    Auto to Manual? (Sort of)

It's almost a sure thing that the crank is drilled for a pilot .The problem you will have is most likely in the flywheel. The register on the back of the crank was enlarged from 2 IN to 2 1/8 or so . This means you will need another flywheel or have yours machined to fit . Good news is that slant...

    Holley 1920 replacement

What I did when I used the Carter from the 65 Valiant on the 76 Aspen with the Holly is switched the the bottom part of the carb (replacement Carter) with a bottom from a 67 and up Carter that used a cable rather than the mechanical linkage. Then it was a bolt on job .

    '69 225 into a Valiant with a 170

You have an oil pan , the flywheel center hole can be machined to the proper diameter easily. The bolt pattern on the early and late 6 cyl cranks are the same .Pilot bushing is an auto parts store item for under 10 bucks. I say go for it.I had one with a machined hole in the flywheel in my 65...

    225 0r 175 slant six

For an all around driver I like the 170 .I have been driving one in my wagon since the 90's with a 4 speed behind it and a 323 7 1/4 sure grip . Like Rusty says , they wind right up fast and I love the fact that I get around 24 MPG out of it.

    Slant Six Tuning/Running Issues

Put an earlier carb on it ,basically set it up like a 65 with only a PCV and a carter 1 bbl. See what happens then. I had this same thing with my 76 Aspen 6 cyl. This is how I solved it.Mid 70's slants are really dogged out and prone to this sort of crap when left in stock condition. They did...

    Engine flush... Yes or No???

The only time I blew up a slant 6 in 40 years was 300 miles after I used that garbage. I followed the directions to a T .Threw a rod. I say no to doing a motor flush with anything but a little kerosene or diesel fuel in with the old oil at the oil change before you drop it.
