Not a slant. 1947 boat Engine

If it’s been sitting a long time, I would about guarantee that it has valves stuck open. Very common on old flathead Mopars that are left to sit. Easiest way to fix that is to pull the head, spin the engine over, tap stuck valves down gently with a rubber hammer. A little Marvel down the valve...

    What do these fit?!

Just scored a pair of slant six headers. The seller said he had them in a mirada “race” car. What are they and what all do they fit?

I Might Have Found Something Pretty Cool.....

So Chrysler 4cylinders and V8s all went to fastburn closed chamber heads starting for the 1985 model year. The slant six was in production up through 1987. Any chance they made a fastburn slant head for '85-'87?!

    170 tips for a budget!

I'd listen to Charlie on this one. Not many guys building fast 170s anymore. My 64 Dart was a 170 3spd. I ended up swapping in an A833 overdrive and a 3.55fd gear. In that light of a car it was fun and super reliable. Even averaged 23mpg! It was stock other than a slightly larger 1bbl off of a...

    225 Long Rod Build Thread

This should be a cool build! Should make plenty of power to move an early A! I've still got two complete 170cuin slants in the shop. I keep daydreaming about a 210cuin stroker! Should rev to the moon, if you can get a head hogged out enough!

So after reading your post, it sounds like the 4G63 is the best choice! Power, ease, economy, balance, reliability, and parent company!

Considering a Slant 6 swap into a Mitsubishi Starion...

No way I'd ever put the heavy boat anchor slant in a StarQuest!!! Those cars have lots of potential, and a S6 would be a step in the wrong direction! And I love the ChryCo 2.2/2.5 and am currently building a S60 GLH, but there are engines with way more potential that go in the StarQuest with...

    Hot Rod Slant Six article

Lol! The 170cuin slant I used to run in my dart made 56rwhp bone stock, aftermarket muffler, but otherwise stock. I pulled the air filter and the lil 170 belted out 58whp! Then plugged in an electric leaf blower and crammed it over the little Carter 1bbl, next pull we hit a legit 61whp! Woot woot!

    Aluminum Slant 6 engine

In my '64 Dart 170, with the stock 170cuin/3spd manual, 3.23 gear, I'd average 23mpg. When I went to a 4spd OD and 3.55 gear I was averaging 27mpg. Most of my driving is in town too. Now with a 360/4spd 3.55 I average about 12mpg.

Super six quarter mile time ?

I guess the NHRA could really use your guys advice. They're probably a bunch of amateurs, not pros like you guys! 318willruns method isn't too far off, but RRR is way off.

Super six quarter mile time ?

Incorrect. 1/8th et x1.57 is the conversion. NHRA uses " 1.6" as the factor I believe. That thing was running 18.50s.

Is a 12 second, 20+mpg slant six possible?

It'd be way cheaper to put in a LS and a 6spd. Run 12s, 20+mpg is gonna require the use of technology newer than our '60s and '70s engines!

Ran her on the Dyno...Did better than I thought it would.

My good running, bone stock 170ci only made 54whp and 91ftlbs. Granted, it was on a stingy Mustang Dyno. Removing the air cleaner assembly was good for nearly 5whp, and an electric leaf blower raised my peak to 61whp!

What would you do? Slant performance

I dunno man. I've had bunches of slants, even currently have a great running 170 in my dd '64 dart, but I've never been able to pull the trigger on building one. It just costs to damn much to actually do one right. I started collecting parts one time. Had a HyperPak intake, Holley 390, and a...

    4 speed conversion - early 170

I have a 4spd OD in my '64 dart 170. It was originally a 3spd on the column. All you need is a 4spd OD bell, fork, trans, and a driveshaft. The inspection covers off the stock 3spd bell work in the OD bell. For a driveshaft I found one out of a '72 Dart Custom slant auto, and it fit perfect...

Put my 170ci on a dyno!

So a local modern Mopar club was having a Dyno Day at a friend of mines shop. I mainly went to have a good time and watch a lot of late model guys get their feelings hurt. It was a lot of fun, and there were some cars there making some great numbers. Biggest numbers went to a SRT challenger with...

    weirdest engine

I'd like to see that too! I'm still holding on to an entire straight axle setup to throw in a an early A gasser! I by far prefer traditional built rods, but I applaud creativity and ingenuity on all the oddball custom builds too!

    weirdest engine

So you'd rather destroy an Abody, than give it new life, simply because politicians are greedy? That's rediculously ignorant logic! Regardless of how crooked our government is, do you really think buying a used Toyota engine or destroying an Abody would tilt the scales in one way or another...

Some new ideas for my Slant

For the money invested in a long rod bottom end, you could buy a few other power adders(cam, headers, etc.), and make some decent power gains. The setup you described above won't have any more power or be any faster than a stock bottom end 225 with the same intake and carb, and a head milled...

    did this valve cover exist?

There's a 1959 Chrysler tech video where the talk about the "new" slant six engine. The one they have on the stand even has a generator on it! It's somewhere on YouTube. Definitely worth the watch!
