What cam to use in a 318

All my old Chilton manuals said the 70s and earlier 80s 318s were 8.6:1 and 360s were "advertised" as 8.2- 8.4 but then in the 80s some of the 360s were advertised as actually being below 8:1, the heavy duty ones in 1 ton trucks and such being listed amongst the lowest. I wonder then if the...

    340 dual point??

I have one for a 392 hemi which was verified as the same length as a LA small block. I have no idea how different it would be set up compared to a 273 or a 340 advance curve wise. Nor how tuneable they are. I have a (now buried) ad here for it and.... Crickets

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

But yet every thread on the subject ends up that way.

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

And I can't be the only person here who is damn sick and tired of "how can I wake up a 318" and constantly hearing the answer "get a 360".

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

For a nice cruiser I have to say id rather do the 302 heads over 360 heads and just clean up the nasty in the heads (light porting) as yeah I know, 360 heads on a 318 have been done forever but a 318 is a bit low on compression anyway, I certainly wouldn't want "less" which is what plopping 360...

sb collant leak at timing cover??

I do that but I have never bought one from new. On every one of them I have had that happen to that was my own, antifreeze had been replaced at a minimum by virtue of having to replace a water pump or radiator prior to the problem happening. I've personally had it Happen 3x and my son had this...

sb collant leak at timing cover??

I've had this a few times. The aluminum cover pits and corrodes. Had it on Dakota 3.9s, also LA and magnum v8s

    Carb recommendations for my 340

My 81 w150 came from the factory with the 318 and a TQ. I loved that combo. Had 3.21s and I put 32x11.50-15s on it...I also had an 89 diplomat that came with a QJ and I had all kinds of problems with that one til I swapped it out. I originally swapped it for a new, identical factory spec QJ and...

I think i broke rear main bearing

On the gasket thing I've done them both ways. As thin as the gasket that sometimes comes with a new pump is, I can't see it helping much vs a perfectly machined flat surface as are both the pump and the cap it bolts to. In the case of the problem posted in the thread any heat applied (welding...

    Intake Manifold Gasket Recommendations

I just bought a set of victor reinz 360 style ones (not the stamped tin 318-2bbl style ones) yesterday. Rock auto has them in their "clearance" section I think they're like $8.something a set. Used to use alot more victor than fel pro mostly because that's what my old go to parts store carried...

    Head gasket question

Been wanting to get other stuff from RA anyhow which I just did to "water down" the shipping cost, so I'll have 2 full sets of the marine ones. I looked up the standard fel pro head gaskets there and price wise these marine ones are only a couple of bucks more than the standard fel pros...

    Head gasket question

Well that went bust. The seller that made me the offer of $30 when their original price was $40 now "can't find" the HG that started me asking... I bought a matching one from another seller, I'll have to hit up RA for $18 "clearance" for the other one... Hopefully the other stuff I've been...

    Head gasket question

Arrrgh Trying to get more info on these gaskets and had a hit from rock auto, figures I could have gotten them cheaper there, but with added RA shipping and these having free shipping the difference between them isn't that bad.... Still would have been cheaper at RA though.

    Head gasket question

I never said I "had to have" them, I wasn't thinking that way originally but they just kind of came up, more of a curiosity than anything. The head and cam swap are happening no matter what, I just saw what might be an opportunity to somehow make the swap better... This car sits more than...

    Head gasket question

This destined for a 318 What's the difference between the fel pro 17050 "marine" head gaskets and the regular "car" ones? I know fel pro also has a "heavy duty" head gasket version too. Somehow the "9898" part number ( actually spec'd for the 360 I believe) comes to mind. Daily driver, small...
