Part Question for Auto Trans Gurus

About 7 months ago, I took apart my transmission watching a video posted by @67Dart273, very detailed tear down & rebuild, though the guy was working on a 518, & mines an A500. Now many months and a short memory later, I got it back together but I have 1 part left over. I don’t know if it came...

999 clutch pack in a 904' & opinions on fluid

I've read where people say to put 5 discs in the forward clutch as opposed to the 4 that I have now, but never see part numbers and details. I've recently read that the A999 trans is the 5 disc version of the 904. Do I simply order clutch parts for the 999? Are the 5 frictions and steels...

    Proper Thickness of Frictions

I had my transmission rebuilt a couple years ago. Project got put on hold before even starting it up. I recently got it to the point of driving, and drove the car to and from the alignment shop. Everything seemed to work OK, but when I got home, I noticed a fluid leak the next day. I drained the...

    A500/42RH Trans Fluid Level

Lets say for reasons I can't remember, I had to modify the tube and dipstick for the 42RH install into a 68 Dart and use the truck dipstick with a A904 tube. I want to cut and engrave new markings on the new dipstick. What is the correct fluid level (running & with pump running) in relation to...

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

This seems simple enough yet… The backstory; Two years ago, I took a 42RH from a Dakota to a shop to be rebuilt. Well, the car project got put on hold because of family issues, time, my ineptitude, and whatever else. I finally recently get the car registered and insured and make an...

Tremec app & O/D Trans with Hotchkis Springs

Let’s see if I can make this not too long I put a 42RH transmission in while building my project. I have Hotchkis springs in the rear, and currently have them on the factory hangers. The driveshaft runs “uphill” from the transmission to the differential, A little over 1°. Using the TREMEC app, I...

    8-3/4 Oil Seal part numbers?

In the Service Manual, I’m seeing gaskets for either side of the backing plate, 1 with steel, 1 just foam, I found part numbers for those, but I’m not finding the Oil Seals they show-2 per side. Do you have a part number I could find at OReillys, Advance, or Auto Zone? Or something I could cross...

    42RH behind Int. balanced engine

I’ve gone & gotten myself confused. Looking at another thread, someone’s talking about symmetrical bolt circles, yet that doesn’t seem to be what I have. Somewhere I read that all 318 and 5.2 are internally balanced. Looking at rock auto, 96 and newer flexplate really doesn’t mention weighting...

    Would you worry about this?

I don’t know if some Lunkhead used a jackhammer to shove a starter in, or if the starter bolts were loose at some point. Should I A. Find someone who can weld cast aluminum Or B. Bolt a starter in gudentite and not give it a 2nd thought?

Opinions please, is this a problem

After spending most of the day in the junkyard yesterday pulling this transmission from a Dakota, I find this where the starter nose goes when I'm cleaning it up. Big deal, or not so much?

    A500-42RH swap question

US Car Tool now makes a crossmember adapter for the A518. Are the mounting points for the 518 and the 500/42 in the same locations so I can use this piece & avoid the fabrication part? 67-75 A-Body 518 Crossmember Kit

Approx value of C body 8-3/4?

What would you expect to pay for a one legged, 68 C-body, 742 case, 8-3/4 from a u-pull-it. Drum to drum, though skinny looking drums with no cooling fins, just a spring looking thing around the drum as a heat dissipater. Thanks in advance FABO for the info
