Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

I finally installed my aluminum heads (low 290's cfm) to replace my hand-ported iron heads (doubt they made 250). Now my 451 runs a lot leaner everywhere, around 1 full point AFR. Cruise is more like 15.5:1 but no surging, so that's ok. The idle is now much too lean, showing around 16:1 after...

    Power valve not opening

Recently I found that the power valve on my 950 carb did not appear to be opening at all. I have it tuned for a lean cruise, but now the AFR readings on the wideband do not richen up when the manifold vacuum drops below the PV rating. In fact it gets even leaner and sags. I did punch it once to...

Edelbrock RPM or Holley Street Dominator?

Trying to choose between these two manifolds. Currently have the RPM. Almost all street driving, until I get a 2-axle trailer because the nearest strip is 90 miles away anyhow  Combo: 451, .652 gross lift ([email protected]) cam, QFT 950. For now, running bowl-blended iron heads. Will shortly...

Carb tune change with better heads?

I recently put a QF 950 (1.42 venturis, 1.75 throttles) on my 451 and went through a lot of contortions getting a good tune with my big cam. My bowl-blended 2.08/1.74 iron heads probably don't flow much over 250 cfm, but they got me on the road! This winter I plan to put on the PRH Stage 1...

Anyone use a DF-17 adjustable PCV?

In my never-ending quest for improved idle and just-off-idle manners (big cam 451, 8" vacuum), I'm considering investing in an M/E Wagner DF-17 tunable PCV valve. http://mewagner.com/?p=444 But that little billet piece is $129.99... before I spend that much, I'd like to hear from anyone who's...

    AFR slowly richens at idle

I have a new strange problem with my big cam 451. Holley blue pump with regulator. Normal behavior: Idles at about 13.5:1 AFR on the gauge at a fairly steady 1200 rpm, 8" Hg. If the speed ever drops below 1000, the vacuum signal also drops and there is not enough fuel to maintain a decent idle...

Convert to replaceable idle air bleeds?

Do I have enough metal here to drill and tap the primary idle air bleeds? (Not sure what the thread size is on the replaceable jets, but I could use a brass set screw and make my own).
