Just took off the intake of a small block, and it's been awhile. I noticed that the area around back inside the lifter valley looked odd. Is this normal or did somthin break off and vanish? It looks like some casting or support is missing.

Anyone have a recommended engine book? I picked up a 360 and I want a book that covers all the little stuff like specs, torque, and what and where to look for issues. Not looking to turn it into a stroker, but if the costs to rebuild the 360 get up there and are close then I'll have to twist...
