Hey I bought this 1" space when I first bought the car, it was running rich and I thought this might help. I never did use it. Now I've got a rebuilt motor with an Air Gap manifold. Can I still use this spacer? Any advantages to using it? Any disadvantages? Thx:tongue1:

I use them all the time. Technically they add a little length to the intake runner for small torque gains. Fuel stays much cooler in the carb also.

Morning Joe. Not too many responses yet and i can understand why. This is a topic that 20 responses will bring 20 different opinions.

So at the risk of getting my head chopped off.........gains and losses will, for the most part, not be seat of the pants changing. Less then a tenth in all but the most extreme situation. This topic is so combination sensative that there are few set rules. You really need to back to back test at the track or a dyno.

It will increase runner length, but more so with a 4 hole spacer, which i would prefer on a dual plane.

Open spacers increase plenum volume and i've seen combo's that have a too small a carb, rules etc, pick up a few hundredths. Theory being carb signal was strong enough to bounce the mixture off the floor and raising the carb eased the transition into the runner. Pump shot adjustment was also required.

Lots of cam overlap can mess with the signal on a short runner manifold so there could be some benifit there also.

Street and occasional strip cars will probably not see a huge benifit but since you have it wont hurt to try it. Also look a little racier under the hood.

I'm being long winded, sorry:smile:.

P.S. Don't slam the hood till you check clearence....hehe

Ok, let the chopping begin:violent1:

i use a 2 inch on my 416 and air gap it made more hp and torque an the dyno but it really helped the idle quallity most of all

It will add a few hundred rpm more to the top end especially if the manifold is too small, i dont see helping bottom end much at all though with it kinda killing the 180* theory/pulling harder on the carb.jme

My testing was with 410 stroker and wieand excellerator single plane intake with a smallish 750 holley, i added a 7/16 spacer and picked up top end.

Agree with 1Wild. Typically, at least with a single plane, that'll move your peak HP up the RPM band. A 4 hole spacer will lend to bottom end.

I run a one inch fiber spacer under a 930cfm Holley on a single plane intake. Works well.

wood or plastic / composite pieces don't transfer as much heat to the carb......one benefit.
Increasing the plenum volume never hurts on an as cast manifold.
Definitely make sure the hood will close ! Unless you need a witness mark for where to start cutting. :thumleft:
