10 inch Brake Backing Plates - Source?

Usual issue - I switched the 8 3/4 to a big bolt axle and I need some brake backing plates with the deeper offset.......etc.....

Where can I get some of these? Does anyone repop these things so I can just call em up?

Also if anyone has a list of 1989 and earlier Mopar CARS with 10 inch rear drum brakes big bolt pattern pls put it up

Thx - JB

I got mine from the local salvage yard. You also need the spreader (strut) that goes between the primary and secondary shoes. All the other parts are readily available from any parts shop.

It seems as though you can use Dodge Dakota 10x2.5" rear brakes because my friend's 8 3/4 he bought had the guts for a 1997 dakota in them so we had to use those shoes. Once we bought the shoes (the parking brake strut is different), they went right on. Might be worth a shot. You'd just need the outer drum for something like a 74 Duster.

Sure, if you want to pay too much and receive lousy service! :violent1:

Mother's Mopar has a set of 11x2.5" loaded plates on eBay. I've bought from them before and they're awesome. If you have 15" rims, the 11x2.5" drums are the way to go. They do fit some 14" rims, I have a set of magnums on my Dart right now as rollers and they clear the 11x2.5's, and that's with the heavy duty finned drums too.

Can't you get one from any B or E body?

Yes. And from any of these. I highlighted the ones that run the latest, ie, easiest to find in the yards. This isn't a comprehensive list, but it's what shows up on RockAuto as compatible.

And then there's these. This is the list for 11x2.5" BBP drums. Again, probably not all inclusive, and with these sometimes you'll find they have 10x2.5" drums as the 11" drums were an option on some.

The 5th Ave's and Diplomats are great sources. The van's on this list almost NEVER have the 11" BBP drums, they mostly used some 9 1/2" drum that's pretty much useless. But the 11x2.5's were an option.

Also, not on this list are the heavier trucks that used a 5x5.5" bolt pattern. The 11x2.5" brakes and drums that ran the 5x5.5" pattern are the same as the 11x2.5's with a 5x4.5" pattern except for the bolt pattern on the drums. So, the backing plates and everything will work, you just need different (or re-drilled) drums. Just the 5x5.5" pattern though, anything with an 8 bolt pattern is a no-go.

They could be 11" brakes, you can see there's an overlap between the 10" brake list and the 11" brake list. In either case, they will work. I run 11x2.5" drums on my Challenger and my Duster, and have a set on my Dart although it's not on the road.

If you have 15" wheels, it's no concern at all. The Dart has 14" magnums on it, and they clear, although I have heard that not all 14" rims will clear the finned 11" drums.

I wonder if the 11s would work with my rims?

probably 100 guys a day go there , open 7 days a week, $700/wk, who needs to sell parts!???? ha

Not without a tape measure. If there's a drum there you can just look at the maximum diameter number cast into the drum.

For the price you said earlier I'd just pull them and bring them home. If they're 11's you won't have any trouble selling them if they don't fit with your 14" rallyes. And I don't know if they'll fit, I only know they fit the Magnum style 14's because I tried it.

Boom! It took a little work but going to the local pull a part is a trip.... there is all kinds of weird stuff goin on at that place..... I swear I think there were hookers workin the back of the yard?

Anyhow - Two Dodge trucks and one had the ten inchers

21.00 including core charge and tax

Nice!

Hopefully you kept the parking brake levers and brake struts...

I am on a budget so I am using the ones off the small bolt plates but....... just in case I took the ones at the pull a part and stashed them in another truck bed so I could go back if I needed them later on.

Wonder if any of the Jeep parts would work as well....since a bunch used Mopar Rear Ends......
