I factory-ordered this red Dart with the 273 V8, 4 doors, 4-speed transmission, Hurst shifter and 8-3/4" rear end. This was a rare combination and after 57 years it's almost certainly the only one in existence. I have the original bill of sale in my name and the broadcast sheet.
$7,000. This vehicle is located south of Dahlonega, Georgia
Current condition
The car was fully functional and was being driven to work every day when my new car arrived in early 1991. I squirted oil in the cylinders and put it up on blocks in my garage, where it's been ever since. But time has made the car not drivable. The fuel system contains deteriorated gas from 1991; the master cylinder seals allow the brake pedal go to the floor; rust on the brake drums causes noise when the car is rolled. But after 34 years of storage the engine can still be turned over easily with a wrench on the crankshaft bolt.
Other information
There are splits in the upholstery and the dashboard, as shown in the photos.
The car has spent most of its life in the South but nine years in Ohio rusted the sheet metal. I replaced the rusted fenders with '69 and '67 fenders that are identical except for the side lighting. I have an original 1968 side-lighting set for restoring the car to its 1968 appearance. The quarter-panels have unrepaired rust damage, a compression at the left-rear corner and other damage that can be seen in the photos.
I retained the working factory radio that I removed to install an AM/FM/casette unit. The car also has an aftermarket tachometer and aftermarket cruise control, both of which were functional when the car was put in storage. There are also a couple of laughable lab-surplus vacuum gauges that can be easily removed. All these items are shown in the photos.
Probably nobody cares, but I've got most of the notebooks in which I recorded all the gas I bought, all the oil changes, brake, shock, master-cylinder, carburetor and valve jobs I did and outside work I had done, including a rebuilt engine at 191,000 miles in 1987. (Driven 28K miles miles after that prior to storage.) The odometer shows 19,000 miles which is actually 219,000.
Documents included: Multi-hundred-page official service manual, owner's manual, warranty manual, original 12-page 1968 Dodge Dart brochure, broadcast sheet, bill of sale.
Parts collection
I have many boxes of supplies and small parts that I have accumulated over the years, well over a hundred items. These will all be included with the car when it is sold. Photos and identifications of most of these are in an Imgur album at the link below. Please take note of the disclaimers included as the second image in the parts collection album.
Message me if you have questions. I will not respond to "Is this still available?" messages; if the ad shows FOR SALE the car is available.
