Hey guys, so i bought my first car, a 74 dart, and plan to fix it up and give it some more power. Right now its pretty much stock performance wise and has a 318/904 with a 2 barrel carb. I'm fixing my front end right now and then i'm moving on towards giving it some power. I have a 600cfm edelbrock carb ready to be put in once i get the intake manifold. Any ideas on some cheap upgrades i could do to increase my power? Keep in mind i'm still in high school so i don't have as much money as id like. Thanks

talk about being off to a good start

how your highway driving?

cheapest bang for the buck would be finding a higher numerical gear set for that rear end, or swap in a stronger rear end all together (but this will require shortening your driveshaft)

of course, gears will lower your top speed...but they will get you there a whole lot faster

or just replace the 318 with a 360 and call her good

it drives pretty well highway and surface streets. when i first got it i drove about 100 miles going about 80-90 unknowingly

i should have been more clear, i was wondering how much highway driving you do, compared to surface streets
i run 3.23 gears in my duster which turns around 3000 RPM at 75 MPH
im guessing you have 2.76s right now which means your probably at 2500 RPM at 75 MPH

so the higher the numerical gear, the quicker the acceleration BUT the higher your engine will wind at any given speed
(4.11s will put you close to 4000 RPM at 75)

so if you want to do gears, decide whats more important, going fast, or getting up to speed
